Reviews
"Found this spot on our way up to Oakland to walk with the dogs. Dogs are only allowed in the campground area and on two access roads but the walk was nice since the campground was closed. The trails were great and loved seeing all the moss."
"I love Portola so much. The forest is like something straight off the forest moon of Endor. The trails are stunningly beautiful and it’s always so quiet. I visited on a Friday morning in December and didn’t see another soul out there. It’s such a gem. Absolutely worth the miles of switchbacks and curvy mountain roads to get there. It’s like magic how much the ecosystem around you changes in just a seven minute drive down Alpine road to get there. It’s like being transported to another world."
"Portola is the place!! Happy welcome in the visitor center, AWESOME hikes, getting wet feet walking the tiptoe trail, exciting landscape and the largest trees I've ever seen!!!"
"The visitor Center has a lot to explore. From local stuffed animals, to maps, fòssils and a lot more to learn about the park. The ranger I'm the visitor center was not very engaged, but with all activities in there, we were able to have a great time without the giidance. There is no reception in the area."
"Love coming to this park and either exploring the trails or relaxing the day. The staff are really nice and it's easy to make camping reservations. Spent two nights at Slate Creek Trail Camp and had a wonderful time."
