Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary
About the Business
The Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary, located at 2430 Lillie Avenue in Summerland, California, is a haven for over 50 rescued companion parrots. Our lush tropical gardens provide a peaceful retreat for these beautiful birds, who love interacting with visitors and making new friends. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2004, we are dedicated to providing quality care and happiness for these intelligent creatures, while also emphasizing community outreach and education. Our mission is to create positive environments for companion parrots, minimize neglect and ignorance that lead to relinquishment, and provide a loving home for birds in need. Join us in supporting our feathered friends by becoming a Friend of the Flock and learning more about our work at the Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary.

"What a cool place! My son saw this on the google map as we were driving from Ventura to S.B. and we thought why not stop. I am so glad we did. There are so many friendly, beautiful birds here that all have a story of there own. I loved meeting and interacting with them. We stayed for about 30 minutes and were the only ones there when we were visiting. You can tell the staff loves all of the birds and they are very well taken care of."
"Had an absolute blast with an amazing tour, visiting all their exotic birds. Our guide gave interesting facts, stories, and their history. The birds are super playful, vocal, and clearly excited to meet with visitors. At the end we got to take our photos with some of them. Can't wait to come back!"
"The Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary is a hidden gem in Summerland approx 3.5 miles South of Santa Barbara. Amazing atmosphere for the more than 50 resident birds. We loved the time spent with many of the beautiful birds, some as old as Sweety a Citron Cockatoo hatched in 1965! Honorable mention to Bobby Houdini, Darby, and Jerry as well! We will definitely make this a must visit place when traveling in and around Santa Barbara!"
"We had the best time visiting! Super friendly and informative staff. Birds were friendly and entertaining! Beautiful place to visit. We paid extra for the behind the scenes, and it was well worth it! Got to hold and interact with several birds! It was a great experience!"
"Thrilled to have found this place for my 6 year old daughter, who is obsessed with birds. I booked a “behind the scenes” for her birthday, driving 3 1/2 hours. I must say, I was very disappointed in what the “behind the scenes” entailed and the price I paid for it. We got about 5-10 minutes with a few birds to hold and saw a couple tricks, took what seemed like an advertisement video, then took a 10 minute “tour” around to see the other birds in their cages. My daughter was completely happy and overjoyed being able to see and touch these beautiful birds for a couple minutes, but I wish I wouldn’t have thrown away a couple hundred dollars, when I would’ve just rather paid $10 for a walk in tour. It was basically the same. Anyways, my daughter’s smile and happiness made it worth it."
