"I grew up in Soviet Poland and was exiled for political disobedience. My memories of my parents and childhood friends were repressed. I would sometimes remember a glimpse of a lock of hair of my first love, or a brief ray of my late mom’s smile when she would cook me her Polish Babushka for dinner. Unfortunately, due to the trauma of exile and my mom’s death in the gulag, my formative years have been hidden behind layers of trauma. Chef David gave us a personal tour of the kitchen and showed us The Hyper House’s secret sauce. He cooked a babushka dish so amazing that he cut through all the layers of trauma, overwhelming me with memories of my mother before her death in Poland. I was on the ground sobbing. Thank you, Chef David. The olfactory truly is a ladder into the deepest parts of the soul, of those experiences that make us who we are. We signed an NDA and he took a sizable security deposit if we leak the sauce, but we hear that if you’re lucky, he might give you a tour to see for yourself!
