"VRBO literally rented a vacation property to my wife and I WITHOUT UTILITIES. We arrived around 4pm after a full day of travel - we notified VRBO and the Property Manager as soon as we checked in and realized nothing worked. VRBO's property issue policy is to give the Property Manager 5 hours to resolve any issue before taking any next steps. After 5 hour wait, at 900pm after a full day of travel, my wife and I were told by VRBO they would reimburse us our money and that we should just go get a hotel. Problem was we brought our dog with us (which is why we were using a VRBO property) and there were no available hotels that late at night that would accept animals. We were left stranded with NO OPTIONS. VRBO Service Representatives were completely rude and did not care at all to help place us in another property; I would have of course paid the difference if more (we weren't trying to get anything for free, we just wanted to figure out a solution). Property Manager couldn't help - VRBO would not place us in another property - after an entire day of travel, we turned around and spent the entire night travelling back home because we had no place to stay. Vacation was terminated, ruined and my vacation days for 2024 were lost. THANKS VRBO, I WILL NEVER USE YOUR SERVICE AGAIN FOR ANY REASON AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND OTHERS CONSIDER ALTERNATE PROPERTY PROVIDERS. VRBO really should screen their properties, a home without utilities should not be listed as available on their site."
"Adding on to the 1-star reviews. I just made a reservation where I was charged a $374 'service fee' by VRBO for their 'excellent' 24/7 customer service. Please see the below screenshot to see how good it is. I also spent nearly 40 min on a call with customer support where they didn't resolve my issue. When I asked them to refund the $374 since they weren't providing the customer service promised, they told me they were unable to do it without cancelling my reservation. I'll be using Airbnb next time."
"This is the most dishonest money stealing company I've ever dealt with. I have been trying to cancel a booking for 6 days so I can get my refund. I've spoken with customer service 4 times in 5 days and still no ome has called me back and they seem completely unable to cancel my bookings and return my mo ey. This all stems from an issue on their app that said dates I tried to book were unavailable. Then they charged me $1254 without hesitation. I have yet to speak with anyone who can rectifiy this. I have bills to pay and this is holding me up. My next step is to file a claim with the better business bureau. This is the absolute worst company! Do not give them any of your money. You will regret it"
"They are took our money the same day I booked accommodation. We got no accommodation and no refund. In the week before our booking I had heard nothing from host. Thought this suspicious. It was a private luxury residence in Balimso I thought we should have got more information on check-in arrangements. Reported this to Vrbo was told to go there anyway!! So we arrived in a taxi to find out it was a scam. House advertised on their web page was never available for short term rental. Had to find accommodation for that night which proved very difficult and stressful for our family. Vrbo said they would look into it and appointed a customer service office. Then no response. The email they gave was subsequently taken offline. The local phone number proved to have been disconnected. Lodged a disputed transaction with my credit card company but Vrbo have proven tardy in response to them as well. Seven weeks after the attempted stay still no refund."
"Beware of booking anything through VRBO, Home Away or Vacation Rentals. Their "Book With Confidence Guarantee" isn't worth a dime. We spent 5 days in Washington DC hoping to explore museums as a family. A week or so before we arrived, the owner of the property "forced" me to use an outside link to pay the balance that was owed on the unit. If I had not done that, we would have lost a place to stay as well as 50% of the total. I made the payment after several calls trying to figure out another way and then they double charged me. Several more calls and a week later, I got a refund for the double charge. We arrive at the unit late and check in - the unit is less than expected. Doorknobs barely hanging on the bathroom doors, old milk in the refrigerator, nasty coffee pot, bug carcasses in middle of floor, less than clean tub with mildew in the caulk, shower curtain rod kept falling down, laundry left in the dryer and very uncomfortable beds that had no box springs and just very thin mattresses. We get up to take showers the next morning and there is no hot water. We check the water heater and it has no power - call owners - they assure us they will send someone out. A few hours later we call VRBO, they tell us they will call owners and ask us to give them 5 hours. If not resolved, call back and they will move us. We get back to the condo around 8 pm, no hot water (and it was in the low 50's at night - the water was very cold!) - no one had been in unit to check it. Again, I call VRBO and they say the person that told us they would move us was incorrect and we had to wait for the owner to resolve the issue. Many, many calls to owner and VRBO - lots of promises from the owner that it would be taken care of - VRBO said our issues were minor and they couldn't do anything to help us other than call the owners, again. We checked out a week ago, I have requested a refund (partial) from the owners - no response. I called VRBO again and requested a "Reimbursement Request Form" that apparently has to be filed within 30 days in order to be considered, and they refuse to give me the form. They said my issue can only be resolved by the owner - and if they do not give us a refund, then I can leave a review on the site."
