"I needed 2 light fixtures moved to different rooms (we used the same fixtures, swapped their locations), and a timer that was already built in for our Christmas lights needed to be repaired. I could tell the guy who came out didn't want to do the job once he saw our ceilings (they are VERY tall), and the price he quoted reflected that because I don't know why any sane person would pay that. He quoted $1300 for the light fixture swap and $1200 for the wall timer (I have the email to prove it), so a total of $2500. I obviously didn't agree to that price and called a different company who came out, completed the work in about an hour, and charged me $460. Since I didn't hire Berkeys, I can't say if they do a good job, but if you call them maybe get a second opinion if you don't want to get SEVERELY overcharged."
"Over the last 1.5 years we have spent over a quarter of a million dollars with Berkey’s and yet when we needed a very expensive toilet installed they sent three kids (yes, kids) who: 1. By their own admission never installed a toilet before. 2. Took 8+ hours to remove and install a toilet 3. Measured wrong and cut out a huge hole in our wall, installed the toilet and told us patching it would be our responsibility (which was impossible to patch with the toilet now in the way). 4. Took unauthorized videos and pictures of our bathroom for personal use. 5. Talked loudly amongst themselves about how they needed to stay till at least 6pm to get overtime pay. They charged $2000 for this - for a toilet removal and install. Charged it to my card while I still had a huge hole in my wall with a copper pipe sticking out 1/2 a foot that they put in. There was zero quality control done. They only had someone come out again after we complained and all of a sudden they tell us that they have someone that can patch this wall. So once again we had them come out to remove the toilet, patch the hole and install it again. So this whole thing ended up taking a week and it’s still not completed. I tried for a week to get in touch with the sales manager Phil Madden Jr who was responsible for sending out these kids. I called several times (they refused to transfer me to his phone) and I even emailed him and I received no response. Nice to see how they treat customers who have given them so much business. This is also not an isolated incident. We have had issues with their HVAC and electrical departments as well. Not only will we never give them any of our new business again but I will make sure that every person we know and our surrounding neighborhood won’t fall for this company. They used to be decent but they have really gone downhill! *edit: from their response below I should have added that I suspect sexism as well. My husband was the first to ask for Phil to call. Phil did, left a voicemail but my husband didn’t have time to call back so I took over. I said this in every message they had me leave for Phil but maybe it’s not as important to return a woman’s request to discuss an issue."
"We recently received a diagnosis for our heat pump from Berkeys where they insisted our entire system needed to be replaced. We had a second company come out to to affirm this 20 thousand dollar diagnosis only to find that it was a simple fix that the other company performed for $95. Our heat has run perfectly with this fix through record low temperatures. The second company found no indication of what Berkeys claimed was broken which leads us to believe the two men from Berkeys were scamming us. Berkeys is commission based and I recommend finding a local company that does not base their worker's pay off of their sales."
