The Vox Apartments

"Be Forewarned Okay, here’s the good and bad with the Vox. The good? Owners/management/leasing couldn’t be nicer. The bad? Once you sign the lease you’re on your own, and it’s not cheap to live here. There’s numerous problems with the gated security system (Latch), and they never seem to get fixed. Here’s the past eight days at the Vox, beginning Dec. 23 at 10:40 pm. You pull up to the gated lot that you are paying around $95 a month for, only to not be able to access the security gate. For whatever reason, it doesn’t open. You call the 24-hour emergency maintenance line and get a recording . You text the owner. You and 3 to 5 other residents sit outside on Lukas Avenue in an area known for break-ins and carjackings for 45 minutes waiting for someone from maintenance to come and unlock the gate. After that finally happens you get this text from the owner: “XXXX just texted me . Sounds like you got in ok. Sounds like the safety eyes got condensation on them due to the warm humid weather now cooling.” Did you notice an apology anywhere in there? Or even a “sorry for the inconvenience?” Nope. The almost $2,000 a month rent you’re paying does not buy you that type of service. Nor does it buy you any security. The “secured gated parking“ is not at all secure. In fact, it’s one of the easiest parking lots that any thief could ever get into. I sent an email pointing that out to the office over a month ago. This was the response from management: “We have security cameras and are doing what we can. Please alert us of any suspicious activity or call the police if you see anyone lurking around. We have been in contact with the police and local organizations, and everyone has been having an issue with teens/young adults climbing over and under fences. Unfortunately, the reality is that if they want to get into a parking lot they will. We are doing our best and will continue to do so.” See the pictures above for what your “gated parking” money buys you. Sometime early morning on Jan. 30 some fine individuals strolled into the secure lot and broke into 12-15 vehicles. Management’s response? Crickets. Again, the owner and staff are really nice people, and the apartments are fairly nice. Maintenance requests are handled timely I think. Just beware the STL police are nonexistent down here, and the odds are you’re definitely going to have break-ins and thefts. My monthly insurance premium (State Farm) went up $47/mo. when I moved here from West County. There’s definitely a reason for that."
