Siteman Cancer Center

"Got referred to Siteman Cancer Center for a 2nd opinion. After 7 calls over the 3 weeks - I still do not have an appointment. Staff is not helpful. MD Anderson & Mayo both called within 48 hours of the referral and set appointments within 2 weeks of the first call. Moral of the story: Don’t go to Siteman."

"I’ve had Multi-Focal Extra Abdominal Aggressive Desmoid Tumors, since January 2011. I have no options in my area to treat my rare tumors. My circulation is being cut off. My tumors will grow over night, then recoup. They doubled in size within a year, and that was September of 2022. I haven’t had a scan since. They’re embedded within my sciatic nerve, in my left leg. I cannot sit up straight. I cannot stand longer than 10 minutes, if that; without swelling. My tumors are cutting my circulation off, day by day. I am rotting away, laying in bed. That’s all I can do… I want treatment. I don’t just want it, I NEED it. I’ve always been open to every option available, I have never rejected treatments for my tumors over the years. My pain is unbearable, my ischial tuberosity is hard as a bone. I can’t drive or go on car rides anymore. I can’t keep living like this, I will end up deceased. My dad is widowed, he is my only support system. He’s lost jobs over the years taking care of me and taking me to treatments. He’s lost 2 oldest sons along the way of my cancer journey. We can’t travel far, it isn’t possible. I need to be seen ASAP… I don’t know what type of miscommunication happened, but I deserve a chance at life, and we all deserve a second chance to make things right. Not only that, I want to be apart of change for Desmoid Tumor research. 900 new cases every year… I just want a chance at life. This isn’t a life to live for a 24 year old… or anyone. You are my only option. I’ve went to almost every cancer clinic in the surrounding towns, I live in. I even went to Peoria. They all told me the same thing; to call you guys and ask for a new physician. In which I have on two different occasions, and I’m being rejected without reasoning. Dr. Zhang of Illinois Cancer Care, referred me to Dr. Van Tine. In which the staff seemed eager to get me in and treat me. Even went as far to appeal my insurance, in which, my insurance was approved. I called, and was turned away. I am lost, scared and hopeless. My dad can’t bury a 3rd child. Please, I’m begging for help. I have no where else to go…"

"First off my husband passed away 11/2/2022. Drs were very kind but could have they done more based on MD Anderson or other top cancer centers...YES. My husband was tolerating the TMZ 5/23 treatment but only got 6 instead of 12. He was DX 11/13/2021 so didnt make even the 12 month prognosis. I know it's a horrid terminal disease but my mother survived 29 months 20 years ago. Same location in the brain etc. They could do better. Agree with others on the wait times, miscoordination of appt. They do their best be I feel for people that travel hours for treatment. Fortunately we were close"

"Every appointment we had here always started off well. The gentleman, Lamont, who does patient check in greeted us with a smile and cheer. We recieved good care here and they were flexible with our schedule since we live 2 hours away. I recommend the siteman center and am thankful such kind staff like Lamont. I'm happy to say we won't be back anytime soon!!! Hopefully, never."
