"We brought our 9-year-old Shepard mix dog Captain to Borgfeld after being unable to get into his regular vet until much later in the week, despite having received a serious and potentially fatal diagnosis from Blue Pearl the day before. Upon calling Borgfeld on Monday morning when they opened at 7:30am and explaining initial diagnosis of either a prostate infection or cancer due to a small mass on our son’s prostate from Blue Pearl, we spoke with Carol who was the nicest and most empathetic voice. We have taken all 4 of our cats here, so we know the level of care and kindness BAH provides, but the fact that they were able to get Captain in ASAP that morning for IV fluids, exam and bloodwork was absolutely amazing. Dr. Z, who has seen and treated all of our kitties, was incredibly kind and reassuring throughout the visit. She confirmed the mass and the likely diagnosis of either a bad infection or cancer that Blue Pearl had provided and scheduled the ultrasound for the following week, giving Captain medication to hopefully help ease his nausea from dehydration in addition to the subcutaneous fluids under his skin. Unfortunately, Captain did not respond the way we all had hoped and by the next morning had thrown up and now refused to drink any liquids. We called BAH and Sabra, another kind soul, told us to bring him in immediately for a slow IV drip and that Dr. Z would prioritize us ahead given the dire situation at hand. True to their word, we were able to get our son in to be seen and Dr. Z pushed up the ultrasound and radiology reading for our boy to that afternoon (something our regular vet would never do). While we were all hopeful it was a bad infection, Dr. Z called us later that afternoon and gave us the difficult news that it was indeed prostate cancer that had metastasized into his lungs. Knowing such a prognosis was something that our son would not be able to come back from, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge that same day. As soon as we arrived, Sabra took us back to get us situated and again provided such kindness and comfort. In fact, we had two other techs come in and provide us with the same type of empathy - absolutely amazing. We spent our last moments with our son on a warm fluffy blanket provided by the staff and Dr. Z sat on the floor rubbing Captain’s ears talking about what a good boy he was - she knew him for 36 hours and to see this type of love and attention was more than we could ever hope for. BAH made our son’s final days as comfortable as possible and gave Captain, my husband and I more love and kindness than we could have ever hoped for. We will forever be indebted to Dr. Z and all the staff and techs of BAH. We love all of y’all more than we can say."
