"It pains me to have to leave this review because I am an avid supporter of black businesses. I was delighted to have the opportunity to get my first tattoo from a black tattoo artist. I have been following Valencia's (Miss V) for a few years now. I am impressed by her skills and ability to create some of the most beautiful tattooing that I have ever seen. I had my consultation with Miss V via text message and she came across very professional and sweet. Unfortunately, the remainder of my experience did not coincide with my initial impressions of her. She asked me to reschedule my tattoo appointment less than one hour before my arrival time. To make matters even worse, she continued to send me the wrong confirmation times and dates, after rescheduling me. I had to send her several messages, making her aware of her own mistakes, before she finally told me to come the next day at 4 p.m. for my session. The next day I sent her a text letting her know I was on my way and to my surprise, she sent me another text (as I was already en route to her shop) asking me to come an hour after my scheduled appointment time. When I arrived at her shop, she was still tattooing another client, so I agreed to leave and come back an hour later. When I came back an hour later, she had me take a seat in her waiting area. She then told me that she needed to go smoke a cigarette before she started on my tattoo. She left to smoke her cigarette (or so I thought). She left me alone in the studio for about 30 minutes - unattended. When she came back into the studio, she was stumbling and off balance. She dropped her cell phone on the floor and slowly picked it up. I became very concerned with her condition. She continued to stumble, this time to the area in which she tattoos. She appeared to be prepping the area to begin working on my tattoo. Then, she stated that she needed to leave yet again and smoke a cigarette. I was baffled because she claimed that was why she left me in the studio the first time. I was growing increasingly concerned. This time, she was gone for about 20 minutes, leaving me alone in the studio once again. When she came back inside, she was stumbling and slurring her words. It was at that moment, I knew that something more concerning was going on. She went over to her tattoo chair and laid her head down. I asked her if she was okay to work and she slurred the word "No" and asked if I could come back another day. At this point, I was extremely uncomfortable and said "Sure" because I was in shock by what had just transpired. As she discussed her availability, she was still slurring her words and seemingly under the influence of an unknown substance. Needless to say, I left disappointed and confused by my entire experience in her shop. The next day, I decided to cancel my appointment because I no longer trusted her to provide me with a completely professional experience. I have since asked her to refund my deposit, which she has refused citing her policy. I hope that nobody else has the same experience I did. Regardless of my experience, I still wish Miss V. the best, I just hope that she can be consistent and professional with all of her clients so that this never happens again. I also hope that she refrains from being under the influence when tattooing in the future. Clearly, she is quite talented and is fully capable of improving."
