"Hello fellow student or parent of students that attends or attended Deer Park middle School. I am now at McNeil High School in RRISD. I liked Deer Park when I attended, but now that I am in high school I realize how unprepared I am. Teachers let you get away with things that are atrocious, such as their late work policy (which is supposedly efficient). Granted the policy gets you good grades but is not a preparation tool. I was completely over whelmed once I began my first week full of home work, projects, and daily work. I am in pre AP English and Biology, and let me tell you those classes are HARD! I am only in my fourth week and I am swamped. I have loads of homework every night, I get home at about 4:30 and don't finish everything until about 8 o'clock. I am writing this review for your information. Please parents make sure that your kids get their work in on time no matter how much of a "curve" they can receive on their grade... You MUST help prepare them for high school. On another note, McNeil is just as hard as Westwood. No matter how many rumors you hear McNeil is a great school. It really prepares you for college and is just as academically challenging as Westwood. P.S. There were bullying problems at Deer Park, Drug problems, and extreme "cliqueyness". Not to mention one of the Assistant Principals is completely rude to students. I remember one event that happened between him and one of my friends, she had been involved in self harm for quite a while (she wasn't covering all of her scars). We were in the lunch room when he walked by and made a crude comment "Am I going to have to start calling you zebra now?" all of my friends and I were in amazement at his ignorance. She was in tears and my friends (excluding me for I did not wish to be in trouble) stood up for her. Two of my friends were suspended for two days because of their courage. I am still appalled to this day about the outcome of that. Thank you for taking the time to read this, my main objective for writing this review was to warn you on how ill prepared Deer Park makes their students for high school. I hope this helped you on your decision about Deer park. How ever there are wonderful teachers I had there being my American History teacher, Science teacher, and English teacher."
