Magnuson Hotel Dixon

"We had to leave… never in my life have I went into a hotel and refused to stay. I would of rather slept in the car. The hall ways, rooms smell like mold, blood on the sheets, holes in the wall and roaches crawling all around. We booked the room 2 weeks out for 4 night. They only refunded us for 3 nights. I understand the policy. However the pictures online make it look WAY nicer then it is so I kinda feel like that’s a scam in itself. We ended up booking another hotel in the area. When we told the gentleman at the front desk what was going on he said “I’m so tired of this” he felt bad for us for sure but seems a lot of people can’t take it. Yicks… a horrible experience and they got us for 70 bucks. :("

"I was pleasantly surprised. Good value for what you get. Very large room Good amount of furniture in it: a Desk, a Pull out couch, standing lamp, comfortable chairs. Manager Charlie does a great job. He's friendly, always available, and very accommodating. The ac worked well. The view isn't bad at all... trees mostly. There's a friendly hotel cat who lives outside. The wifi worked well. The room was fairly clean. Very quiet room. Nice waiting area/ lounge. There are just a couple of minor suggestions. The carpets are a little dirty. The bathtub could use whitening. The drapes don't completely close. It's difficult to find your way back to the room. The parking lot out back could use cleaning."

"I've seen a bunch of people complain about how run down the place is and yeah, some of the place seems like it's seen better days but therein lies the charm of the place, for me anyway. The decor and appearance reminded me of the 90's, it was kind of nice just getting lost in time a bit and the location is cool, out in the middle of nowhere past Dixon, pretty close to the Midway Drive-In. The place has a lot of potential, even has a ballroom. A little spit and polish would go a long way with the place. The guy at the desk was a really nice guy, don't know if he was the owner but he was really accommodating and I thought I'd be staying for two nights but my girlfriend and I decided we wanted to get going and I saw on my bill, he didn't charge me for another full night, just a partial fee for staying past the checkout so that was pretty damn nice of him when he didn't have to do that. I for one really liked my stay. People can complain all they want about the place being a bit ran down but 75 bucks for a standard room? With how much costs nowadays, that's next to nothing to stay at a hotel for a night. I'd stay there again."

"I had to stay here for around 3 weeks, I had no other choice as we were homeless. I have to say, at first I was definitely taken back by the reviews about the bed bugs and the manager. I have to say this, Charlie is an amazing guy. He’s very trustworthy, he not only manages the front desk but he cleans. He is a 5 star employee. He was so helpful the entire time we were there. I feel like they put a lot on him, but he does his very best. People have to understand this hotel is very old and not a lot of people will care but, this is a 50-60$ hotel. It’s not going to be valued as 150$ with the amount of money it costs for the room. Yeah it’s not gonna be the prettiest, but you get your moneys worth. Thank you Charlie and the Owner of the magnusson. Rooms were clean, no bed bugs, little bit of mold in the hallways but they’re doing renovations. Only bad side is the location."

"This hotel is the worst I have seen in my life. Pictures shown are completely fake The whole building reeks of mold and mildew. I saw a bed bug clear as day on the bed in my room. Huge spider in the bathroom, toilet did not work. When I informed front desk of toilet not working they said there was nothing they could do. Bathtub and walls were filthy. I left right away Wall was clearly suppose to be white but was dark yellow from smoking. Front desk guy working there was literally smoking the entire time he was checking me in. The lady working the desk was nice but didn't care about her job and had no care for how disgusting the place was. The entrance door was shattered and there was glass all over the ground. No elevator, so if you have a ton of luggage, or someone in a wheelchair, you will have lots of fun going up the filthy stairs. My whole stay was refunded"
