"I visited Houston from Europe for work for 3 nights. My office was going to book the nearby Lancaster Hotel for me, which is a lovely hotel but I much prefer the space and freedom of an apartment having stayed in lots of hotel rooms over the years. I booked the Hogg Palace instead and it worked out perfectly. It is a basic space executed very nicely, and it's a good size. It was a nice place to either hang out or get some work done when I wasn't out and about at meetings. I had a challenge with the elevator on arrival and contacted the chat assistant on the Sonder app. They couldn't have been more helpful. All in all, it was a good fit for what I wanted and I would go back there again next time I'm in Houston."
"I have stayed in the Hogg Palace three times recently. The apartment is only several blocks from the Houston Opera, The Houston Symphony, the Houston Ballet, and the Hobby Center. Plus excellent restaurants are equally distant. I love the facilities at the Hogg Palace: secured, gated parking; exercise room; 24-hour security; and beautifully maintained apartments. The price is unbelievably reasonable for the location."
"Pleasant Stay with a Slight Hiccup We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-night stay at Sonder The Hogg Palace in Houston. The loft's cleanliness, thoughtful setup, and comfortable amenities contributed to a great experience. The bed and bathroom were particularly noteworthy. However, we were disappointed by the persistent marijuana smell in the building, despite the clear prohibition in the guidelines. It would be beneficial if there were measures in place to enforce this rule and ensure a completely smoke-free environment for all guests."
"Love Sonder’s great value offerings like The Hogg Palace. You won’t be able to find listings this unique via hotel brands. The Hogg Palace loft units are straight out of an architectural magazine, with super high ceilings and exposed structural details that tell of the building’s previous life juxtaposed against fine modern furnishing. Their management also really put heart and soul into their bedding, all high end and super clean. The bed was California king sized, a pleasant surprise upgrade from the original queen size booking. It paid off — I’ve never slept so sound and so deeply away from home. On top of all that, the unit had a sizable walk in wardrobe, large oval shaped jacuzzi bath (love the luxurious scent of their shampoo/soap set), and fully outfitted open kitchen with an island replete with a Cuisinart coffeemaker, all for under $120/night — inclusive of parking and all else. Unlike hotels, you don’t get slapped with surprise charges at checkout. That said, Sonder’s fully automated checkin and checkout can be tricky. Make sure you read instructions carefully and check both email and text for the passcode. They send different ones out via different channels, you just have to try all of them. You may also want to be prepared for adjusting to unconventional unit layouts and seemingly large hollow spaces. For example, seeing the bed first thing upon entry, or massive columns and and air ducts. Playing music helps to fill the void with familiarity, as with bedroom slippers that keep your feet warm in these larger units. Amenities wise, The Hogg has a fully equipped gym on the second level, a theater on the third (wasn’t available during my stay), and storage service for luggage and parcels. This location is also nestled in the heart of the Theater District in downtown Houston, within walking distance of many great performance arts venues and a variety of diverse dining options. Compared to my first Sonder experience in So Cal earlier this year during peak summer, this was definitely more upscale for about the same price. Very impressed and would absolutely recommend this Sonder location to anyone looking during off peak periods for optimal value capture."
"I want to give this place four stars. I WANT TO. It’s like at 3.5 for me. Let’s start with the whole booking and check in process. Everything is completely online, it’s even better when you have the app. You can see the different types of rooms available and what it provides. Why I initially picked it was because of how large the individual spaces were and of course it being LGBTQ Friendly. The entire building used to be apartment / lofts that the company bought out and turned into loft style hotels which is genius. Love the idea and love the entire concept. Love love love. The building is old but inside the lofts were very clean. And they share the top floor with a law firm. The room we booked with one bedroom - had a wall between the kitchens/living area/dining area and “bedroom,” loft style - which meant no doors but the bathroom had a door and separated the shower/tub from the toilet which I personally love. They also had in-unit washer and dryer and provided extra towels I requested ahead of time. The loft itself was nice and very spacious!!! The door to the rooms all come with an access code that will activate exactly when you’re allowed to check in, which was 3pm-3:30pm. Again that’s genius and prevents people from coming too early. Every entrance had access code needs and there was zero service desk. Anything you need you request through the app or call a number. They had people on site cleaning but you rarely saw them. The issues: one elevator. For the entire building. I’m guessing the other elevator was turned off or belongs to the law firm??? But it was annoying because there weren’t any stairs you can take take either! The garage looked super sketchy; you needed a code for everything. Code to get in AND out of the garage which is nice because then it prevents randoms from parking. They also had a second floor of the garage which you had to exit the one garage and enter through a different entrance for the second floor parking. Then if you parked on the second floor go down stairs and then into the building then go into your loft. They share the building with a law firm and there are plenty of signs everywhere to make sure you park in the correct spot. I do appreciate the entire concept and thought and process. I just think this particular place needs to clean it up and make it more presentable if you’re competing with major hotel chains. It was almost $700 to stay from Friday night to Monday morning which was about $233 a night…. I felt like I only stuck with it because of the loft style space itself. It was more than enough for my significant others and I. We would stay here again but I really hope they fix it up!"
