Barrow Apartments

"If I could do a 1 1/2 star I would. But 2 will get the point across. I guess. We have lived here for a year now and are EXTREMELY happy to be moving out next month. The area is nice and convenient and the apartment as a whole is not entirely miserable if it’s what you have to settle for. We had to settle for this place due to having to do a quick move and there were red flags from day one. First off they gave us the apartment with a broken sink, painted over mold, painted bathtubs that began to peel on the first week we moved in, disgustingly painted over AC vents and walls that were literally painted over with no regard for cleaning or replacement. We had to wait WEEKS for them to replace the filthy air filters so we resorted to just buying our own each time it needed to be replaced. We had electrical issues the first week we moved in that led to our washer and dryer being burned out by the bad electrical wiring that fried our machines computers. Our rent went up $200 since moving in for new thermostats and electric locks and gate systems (which only worked for a couple of weeks mind you) the forced technology and internet packages are overpriced and extremely underdelivered. Money should be put into things like fixing outdated plumbing and HVAC equipment. The AC would either freeze or not work well through the summer. But the worst issue we had was the extreme poor ventilation of the old buildings leading to my ending up at the ER 2 times due to bad asthma flare ups which I had not had in over 10 years since moving into this apartment. Our downstairs neighbors will literally hot box the bedroom directly below our master bedroom, my husband went inside their apartment to assist maintenance because they could not determine a leak and he confirmed that the walls in our downstairs neighbors apartment are all yellow due to the excessive smoking. We reached out to the office about the excessive smoking that led to my bad health, and we were told there was nothing they could do about it. We looked into getting attorneys but we didn’t have the money to sue… Not to mention the time someone broke into my car. Thankfully we don’t leave anything valuable in it so there was nothing to take. The apartment building across the street had a horribly obnoxiously loud tenant we had to call the cops on 8 times due to playing loud music up till 4am during weekdays, which I know is unrelated to this apartment directly but it does affect this property as well. All in all, it’s livable if you need to live in it. If you can afford to not live here, please be warned. The office people do their job, I’m sure it’s not directly their fault that the living conditions are the way they are so I can’t necessarily blame them, but yeah. Just be warned it’s not the ideal place to live comfortably at. It overall ended up costing us twice as much with us having to purchase our own air filters, AC filters, and fans to keep cool because we knew we couldn’t depend on what this place had to offer."

"I've lived here for 4 years, and will be moving this year. The area is nice, and convenient to a lot, but I also need to be closer to my family. I am also immensely frustrated with the internet package the management company forced on us, resulting in me having to pay for 2 Internet services just to make sure I don't lose my job. There was also a huge issue over the summer of the apartment not cooling down, no matter what we did, the water was turned off constantly with little to no notice, and those things are detrimental when working from home. I've also had issues with the maintenance staff talking to me like an idiot, one even going so far as to tell me that it's normal to have standing water in the bottom of my dishwasher, and another asking if I knew that I had to rinse my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher with the same tone you would explain something to a child, as well as a third separate person being extremely dismissive of both myself and my roommate when we expressed concerns about a gas smell coming from the guest bathroom."

"My apartment has done me and my family well for the most part. My biggest issue out here is the pest control and the neighborhood kids that can't stay out the streets. We all pay for pest control, it's in our contracts so it should be mandatory that the exterminator comes out to All apartments to check and spray instead of us having to call and ask them to come when they get paid by us all when we pay rent. I also don't like how the water bill is split between the whole apartment unit and I pay more because 4 of us live here when my neighbors have 2-4 people sharing living spaces and not being on the lease ultimately leading my to pay a higher bill for water usage my family didn't use. Other than that the apartments are pretty decent, you just have to stay on top of the maintenance."

"Sorry apartments, we will be 5 days without warm water in my building by the earliest time they have given me to fix it, it’s below 30 degrees outside. I bet if they lived on property that would be a quick fix. What kind of complex treats their residents like that? I have been here for 4 years and in that time my rent has gone up by almost double, but no matter who owns this property it will always remain for poor folks. I implore you take a couple extra hundred dollars and move to a property that respects its tenants most basic needs, and if they double your rent you should get more than a digital door lock and thermostat."

"Do not move in here. I moved into my apartment on June 3, 2023. For the last two months my apartment has only been under 80 degrees twice. I have experienced 90 degree climate inside my apartment on numerous occasions. I have photos with dates and times to show just how hot it has been in my home. I have put in service request after service request and their so called repairs have not solved the problem. They haven’t reached out to any outside entities to fix the problem either. I am ready to take legal action against this property and seek reimbursement of rent and expenses I’ve accumulated battling this problem myself."
