Egan House
About the Business
Egan House, located at 1500 Lakeview Boulevard East in Seattle, Washington, is a remarkable example of non-conforming modernist design. Designed by architect Robert Reichert in 1958, the house was acquired by Historic Seattle in 1998 in partnership with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department. Threatened with demolition multiple times, the Egan House underwent interior and exterior rehabilitation in 2003.
The exterior work included repairs to deteriorated wood, a new roof, paint, and support column for the cantilever above the entryway. Interior renovations included paint, heating system improvements, tile replacement, and upgrades to the bathroom and kitchen. Designated as a Seattle Landmark in 2010, the Egan House now serves as a single-family rental managed by Historic Seattle.
The Egan House is the youngest building in Historic Seattle's portfolio, representing a departure from traditionalist styles when it was first constructed. Its preservation has allowed Historic Seattle to expand its advocacy and educational programming to recognize modern design as an important part of our architectural heritage.
