"Very nice guided tour of The Jewett home."
"Why did I wait so long? Jewett has long been one of my favorite authors yet I had never visited her home less an an hour away from mine. Go. Go! You will be pleased you did. The docent was terrific, the tour just the right length, the price beyond reasonable and street parking easy. Go!"
"We just looked at the pictures in side they do have house tours, and they end ai3:00 last tour"
"This house museum is operated by Historic New England and was once home to Sarah Orne Jewett. The tour clearly conveyed that Jewett was a fascinating person with many interests and a wide social network. The Georgian style house and adjacent gardens are beautiful and expertly maintained. Unfortunately, the tour guide became overwhelmed by the amount of worthy material and had difficulty pacing the tour, lingering for too long in the early rooms and frequently repeating facts. A tightly written, timed script would have alleviated these issues and made the tour more enjoyable both for the visitors and the guide. Tours of the house run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Historic New England’s open house in June through mid October with tours on the hour at 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tickets are standard Historic New England pricing: $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $7 for students, and free for Historic New England members (like me!). The house is not accessible by wheelchair, and the stairs might be too steep for people with low mobility. A virtual tour is available on the website."
"This was an interesting presentation of Jewett's life and importance."
