"To my dear friend and former therapist: this mental health month I choose to honor you. Not only because you’re an amazing human being but because when I was 17 years old, you saved my life. You were my art therapist from the time I was 17-23 years old. There’s not a day that goes by, now, at 33 years old that I do not hear your words of wisdom echo through my mind. I don’t think people tell each other how much they’ve changed their lives for the better. And that’s what I’m trying to do now. I was extremely suicidal, depressed, confused about my own identity when I met you. And you selflessly opened yourself up to me to help me give the tools that I need to thrive and survive in my life. Even though you were going through probably one of the many hardest times in your own personal life. I just want to thank you and honor you. Because, at 33, im still here. Mostly because of you, giving me the Stengeth that I needed to believe in myself. You first gave me acceptance, then courage, then the strength to believe in myself. I don’t care if this is sappy, I’ve had a lot of bad things happen in my life and the only regret I have is not letting the people most important to me, the people who were the most instrumental in my advocacy, letting the know how much the mean to me. So thank you."
