"It's been over a decade and I still remember Dr. Ness as the kindest and most calming presence in what was thankfully a very short visit to b'ham children's for optic neuritis. Excellent in every way, from bedside manner (which I imagine can be challenging when taking care of kids) to skill in executing a spinal tap. I was really young, but she explained things so I could understand and respected my wishes to not be told when the needle was going in. I remember she told a joke just moments later so I was actually laughing right away and felt no pain. She was that good--able to smile, lighten the mood for a scared kid, and do her job to perfection."
