"Run like a prison, look else where. I did have a night time hero and a day time hero on staff who kept me from truly going crazy. This should be a therapeutic place. No activities other than group (leader is amazing). Maybe try mediation, yoga, have clocks so we know what time it is. Let us have a water cup in our room. Let us have a diary we write in. Cleaning crew is kind. Doctors are great. Bring in some therapists though for us to talk to. Let us go outside more often. Keep us busier and buy TVs for the rooms. And invest in some toilet paper that is more than 1 ply. Also more books. Some calming ocean wave sounds somewhere. To my night time and day time heros you know who you are. Thank you. Beyond words thank you."
"I really wish I could have zero stars. But yes don't go here, they don't care. Nearly killed my mother. Just put her on pills and booted her out the door. And with these mixture of pills, it caused her to have a stroke. Go somewhere else people"
"All I did was make a phone call to BSS telling her about the story of my situation in the intake. Person basically told me that she would let people scream and berate the adults in her hospital as well. Very shameful way to treat a mental patient, especially one who's calling for help for herself"
"Sanctuary is now a place for patients that have left the hospital and going to another facility,. Patients are quarantined there for 2 weeks to make sure they don't have covid 19. You are confined to your room and staff wear PPE. My brother was sent there from the hospital before he could go nursing home for therapy. I had heard some bad things about this place and read some of the reviews. I was concerned about him being in there. My brother told me the everyone was nice, good to him,and he did physical therapy there. When I brought him something, someone would come to the car and get to take to him. My only complaint is if a person is in quarantine to make sure the person doesn't have covid 19,why put another person in the room with them,?if that person tested positive at any time isn't there a chance the other person could get it. Didn't make sense to me.."
"I spent two weeks at The Sanctuary. If you are suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, or anything of the sort, DON'T admit yourself here if you can help it. This hospital is clearly underfunded and poorly managed, and to the point where I question if it should even be open. There were leaks in the ceiling that were never repaired during my stay, and the walls are covered in holes. Every single time I had paperwork to complete, employees completely forgot about it and I ended up doing it days late. I didn't even get my admissions paperwork until I was there 4 or 5 days because they forgot about it. However, that is not what most concerns me. I received next to NO counseling or therapy that was beneficial to me. They require you to attend groups every single day, which can be informative at times, but are mostly repative and juvenial. The groups are in no way therapy, which is something that I strongly feel should be a priority in a mental hospital. The only one-on-one counseling session I got was on the ELEVENTH day of my stay, and the counseler was condescending and snide to the point where I burst into tears. People who are in such a dark place that they need to go to a mental hospital need ways to work through their feelings, but there aren't many ways to do that here. A significant amount of the nurses were cold as well as condescending. I was suffering from a UTI my entire stay, and I was NEVER given medication for it even after bringing it to their attention 3 times. I was refused my sleeping medicine because "I haven't lied down yet" even though I was wide awake, and I was unable to get a good nights sleep my whole stay there. We were woken up twice, sometimes three times every single morning. 4am for blood work, 5am to have your vitals checked, and 6am to get up. It is impossible to sleep well here. They constantly preach how sleep is important for your mental health, but they didn't let us have that. Also, they give you a schedule for each day, but there is only one clock in the entire building. That is not a joke, one clock. There is only one phone that patients are allowed to use, which is incredibly frustrating. They claim calls can be up to 10 minutes, but I can't count how many times they've cut me off after only a couple minutes. I found it disappointing that I couldn't communicate with my loved ones for more than a couple minutes. Although the majority of my stay there was negative, there were some bright spots. The doctor and the nurse practitioners are incredibly knowledgeable, positive, and kind. Their knowledge in medicine was superior to most psychiatrists I've seen. I was prescriped medication that has really helped me. Most of the PCAs were warm and kind, you could tell they wanted to help the patients as much as they could. The rooms are decent, they do the job. The food is not the worst, and can be quite tasty at times. It isn't the healthiest food though, so expect to gain some weight while you're here. Overall, I would not recommend it. Even though my medication has been regulated and it has improved, it just isn't enough. Therapy is such an important part of recovery, and it's not a priority here in any way shape or form. Wait for the next place that comes around."
