"A lovely place to camp that's right on the lakeshore, and a great spot for a beach day. The beach is great for Yooperlite hunting, the positioning makes it perfect for sunset, and there is a cool lighthouse. This also makes for a good spot to watch the northern lights"
"Revamped in 2023 with new roads, campsites, electrical, camper cabins, ECT .views are still breathtaking. Site 3 was on Lake Superior & big enough for 2 campers...views are beyond amazing. Oh .fantastic showers and restrooms..amazing camp hosts. Would love to stay longer than 5 days ."
"Great State Park with Lake Superior views a Lighthouse and Splendid Superior Sunsets. This is a very beautiful well-maintained campground with new restroom/bathhouse. The roads are paved and easy to get an RV around. We enjoyed it so much we stayed there 2 extra nights. The rock collecting is very good especially in the designated swim area. We found a couple Yooperlites at McLain as well as some local nearby Township/County Parks. Be aware the Public Swim area closes at 10pm. You can’t drive back there at night for rock hunting. There is ample spots along the shoreline and break wall to the lighthouse to fish. There are also many walking paths through the woods and near Lake Superior. The nicer playgrounds for kids are toward the public swim area too. We were there 4 nights with 3 kids who only had bikes and loved it. The playgrounds for campers kids are lacking and really need to be improved. There is a beautiful gazebo you can experience magnificent sunsets at. The campground has a road that’s partially closed due to Lake Superior taking part of the campground back. There’s still many beautiful sites left to either be on the shoreline or get a spectacular view of the lake from your site. The campground has very spacious sites for the most part. The State is very conservative with site estimates where you can fit a larger camper than the measurements state. A very nice campground that would have gotten better ratings if they increase the playgrounds for the kids. Beware cell service is terrible. A great place to truly get away from work if your on vacation. We really enjoyed it and definitely will come back. If I could give it 4.5 stars I would."
