Reviews
"We lived at The George for 14 months. We agree the new management team is excellent! We found that everyone was very friendly and kind. The dogs in the building were very well behaved and we never heard barking! Our one complaint is no fault of The George—the blame is aimed at DTE. In the 14 months we were there, we lost power for 18 days. That’s tough when you are 81 and use a walker! (We were on the 5th floor and the elevators didn’t work! The new management company should really push the owners to invest in a generator. I would recommend The George to anyone looking for a nice, clean, quiet apartment with great amenities and a super staff ready to help you. Betsy Doepken"
"I would not have written a five-star review a few months ago -- I don't really disagree with any of the other, lower reviews that residents have posted. But The George switched over to a new management company in November, and I have been nothing but impressed with the new management. The old company required multiple follow-ups and in-person office visits to get anything resolved; the new company follows up same-day. When issues arose in my apartment that were out of their control, they worked with me to find creative solutions to fix things. When the mailroom started to overflow with packages, they hand-delivered them to apartment doors to clear things up. It's only been a couple of months, but what I've seen so far has turned The George into "somewhere I want to leave as soon as I can" to "somewhere I'm happy living for awhile." (And it's worth noting that Moe, who's led the maintenance team through both management teams, is a godsend.) I'm looking forward to seeing what else they do with the building in the coming months!"
"The property is excellent, but the property management team is severely lacking in experience. It's advisable to avoid dealing with Makenzie. I've encountered several instances where the resident payment portal processed my monthly auto-payment, but it didn't actually go through with the bank. I was willing to cooperate with them to understand and resolve the issue, but the property management lady, who displayed a high level of arrogance, treated me as if I had intentionally missed a payment and even issued a lawyer's notice. I've been a resident here for over two years and have never missed a payment, so they should exercise some common sense by checking the tenant payment history. Such a lovely property, but the attitude displayed by the management team is certainly not what one would expect."
"Stop. Don’t look here. Run! If you’re looking for a new place. This is NOT the one. The day we moved out, there were another 6 people moving out because the rents increases year on year were very high. One of the other longer term tenants told me that renting a whole house down the street was much cheaper than her studio here. It’s very noisy. You can hear your (quietist) neighbors speak, walk, even fart! Power/electric issue. Losing power “every other month” (6 times+ a year) for days is not fun! All my food spoils. Elevators do not work. I have had to check in a hotel. The George Apartments needs a backup generator! It’s not livable. Package delivery is a mess. Their system doesn’t work. Often, the delivery boxes are not used because the boxes may be too small, or because the delivery driver didn’t feel like it. It can take 30 mins to find a package in the mess. Over the years, maintenance requests have gotten better; with Moe and his crew doing a great job. The one star would be for them. Now, the management team is horrendous! Over the past few months, they’ve been trying to squeeze out every little penny from their tenants (and non-tenants) by adding JUNK fees for literally everything- from water to outside parking to using common spaces. When we moved out, the management still hasn’t refunded our deposit. They made up some fake fees and charges. Michigan law details pretty specific requirements for return of your deposit. If you don’t follow that, you’re stuck. Luckily we are familiar. But still waiting for a refund, and it’s likely we would need to drag them to court for the security deposit. Update: management refunded our deposit."
"If you like chewing on plastic and licking rust, the George will make sure your apartment is set up to your tastes. Like this “completed” maintenance request delivering us the oldest, rustiest set of dishwasher racks they could find."
