"We hired Property Revolutions to remove our chimney, replace all the siding on our house and garage, and install a sliding glass door. We learned that they will only do the work very specifically listed in the quote. Their crew damaged our house, and did a poor job overall. We met with the quoter and walked down the project. We explained that a pest control company told us the only way to stop bats from getting into the attic is to replace the roof vents, and for that, they would have to rip down the siding – so we should re-side the whole house and replace the vents. I explained that I didn’t like the way the old siding on the house stopped ~12-18 inches up from the ground – and that I’d like it to go all the way to the ground like the garage’s siding. We got the quote, and it was slightly competitive with the other companies who quoted the project, so we signed and paid the deposit. Then we found out that we would have to pay $2,700 more to have the fascia replaced, because that wasn’t included. Also, they only counted 2 of the 4 walls of the garage, so the it would cost twice as much (they worked with us on that price). Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that, since the quote didn’t SPECIFICALLY SAY to replace the roof vents, the old vents would remain in place (and the bats still get into our house). Also, the quoter didn’t write into the quote going all the way to the ground, so when they did the installation later, they stopped higher than the old siding! We had decided to change the color of the house with the new siding project. You would think the quoter would know to include in the quote changing the outlet covers to match the new color scheme. Nope. You would think the “faux shutters” would be replaced, too. Nope. Because we just said “re-side the whole house!” but didn’t point to every little detail and ask to have it replaced, it wasn’t included in the quote. So the “competitive quote” was actually an “incomplete quote.” The chimney demolition left a 1’ wide hole in the foundation where their machine pulled out “a large piece” that they “didn’t realize was part of the foundation.” Rather than tell us about the problem – they WENT HOME – and didn’t even cover up the hole. We temporarily filled it with spray foam when we found it (to keep insects and animals from getting into our house!). They eventually filled it with expanding concrete, but the bottom line – our foundation was compromised. When they installed the sliding glass door, at first they put it in backwards (we complained, and they switched it). We had told the quoter which way we wanted it to open – but she didn’t put the directions in the quote. They didn’t cut straight lines, it’s not installed plumb (off by 1.25”), and they used framing boards that weren’t wide enough to cover the entire depth of the wall. We’ve had 4 handymen look at the inside part to install trim, and all four said, “They installed the door wrong.” We met with the owner and foreman to show them the siding mistakes on the house, like how the horizontal lines didn’t line up going around the corner. There were a number of bad trim folds and gaps that they eventually fixed. They did a better job on the garage (which they did a few months later) than on the house. There were other mistakes we have to fix. They cut our internet cable and used it to tie a scaffold. They broke the front door light fixture and THREW IT AWAY. They damaged the exterior electrical outlet (which can’t be fixed without ripping apart the wall!). They crushed garden plants. So what we learned was… make sure the contract spells out everything little thing you want done – even tasks you would think are part of the project per “common sense” – because they won’t do anything that’s not specifically listed in the contract. Take photographs BEFORE they do any work, so you can prove when they damage something. And complain right away when they damage something – because they’ll quickly start to argue that it’s not their fault, or why they don’t have to fix it."
