"This is a beautiful Sanctuary with trails passing through a surprising variety of habitats. It has a flood plain and the headwaters of Little Cedar Creek. Parts of this are muddy in the spring, so be prepared with shoes that can get muddy, or skip that trail after spring rains. There is a field with a wide variety of wildflowers that attract butterflies galore. The wooded areas offer shade and different flora and fauna. Native species thrive here. Near the house, there are several gardens that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. This sanctuary is foot traffic only, and they ask that you call ahead or stop in to let them know you'll be on the trails. You can also call if you have nature related questions. Ranger Steve, who owns and manages Ody Brook Nature Sanctuary, is very knowledgable, and if he doesn't have an answer for you, he can usually direct you to another specialist who will. He had a column (Ranger Steve's Nature Niche) in the Cedar Springs Post, which can be accessed online. Many of these columns share stories related to Ody Brook Nature Sanctuary, and they are worth reading. It was a great place for my summer wedding photos. Happy exploring!"
"Compact area with a high density of Wildflowers. I was here in mid-June so too late for the many varieties of Trillium, Spring Beauties, Bloodroot and Trout Lily but in time for Bitterroot, Spiderwort, Bluntleaf Sandwort and the Fringed Sedge. Call before going as this is a homestead. Family is very receptive to us Wildflower nuts...I'll be back next May for the early spring wildflowers."
"Interesting spot. Meant for small groups at most, which is nice. The main trail system is behind the house. Very welcoming and quiet space to take in some nature. If you are around northern Rockford/ Cedar Springs take 15-30 minutes to walk the loops and enjoy a nice variety of flora. Look for the butterfly mailbox and then behind what looks just like a home. Small pathways off to the side."
"You may be a bit confused when Google Maps seems to be sending you up a private driveway, but that is correct!! Venture up and get a parking spot, then take a walk on a wonderful nature trail."
"Nice little place. Small, but lots of winding trails. When you pull in it looks like you're driving up to someone's house. Watch out for mud in the springtime. They prefer if you call ot email before going."
