"Hotel was great, good breakfast, nice lobby & places to sit with cute North woods look. Room was clean & safe. Price was great in low season. Only issue was getting to the hotel in the dark. No lights on sign or building. We about drove through 3 snow covered ditches till we found the snow covered drive. Be careful!! A few lights would upgrade the appearance!!!"
"This hotel was a horrible nightmare. We had a 9# comfort dog with us, that's perfect in every way. We were put in a room with a very slow sink drain. The room wreaked with the smell of animal urine. It wasn't until the middle of the night that I realized the other side of the pillow I slept on, had been peed on as well. Because of Autumn colors, time....and the availability of other lodging, we stayed the night. I only recommend this place for untrained animals. Don't waste your time or money... sleeping in your car is a better option. We learned from a local waitress that AmericInn by Wyndham had previously had serious problems with customers falling ill to gasses in the pool area....they had to close for months in the past, until that problem was fixed. Clearly, this establishment has problems, but from the outside, it's nice."
"The first night was rough with a bad bed, but the friendly staff kindly moved us to a room with a better bed. Their continental breakfast was good. It's a great option if, like us, you can't afford a more upscale experience."
"What a great experience. They are on a service road, very easy to see from US31. Front desk help was amazing. All smiles. Complimentary breakfast was great, too! Heated pool was awesome. Room 222 is very clean, has a gas fireplace, and comfy bed!!"
"Booked this through the Wyndham phone service. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to do something spontaneous, so we saw this place and called in. The agent told us they had a room with our requirements (hot tub) but then she said "I have even better, king room, hot tub and a fireplace." We were sold. We drove 250 miles, excited to explore the area and for a toasty fire later that night. The fireplace did not work much to our chagrin. We went to the front desk (they have no telephone service) and the girl up there offered us 10% discount. I explained that we literally based our trip off this hotel and 10% is insulting for people coming from so far, celebrating an anniversary. They offered us another room with a tub big enough for one person but which smelled damp. Obviously not an option. She then said we can feel free to look elsewhere, that she can cancel the reservation. If we were not tired from driving, believe we would have. Based on this unimpressive short encounter, I could already tell that this interaction was going nowhere. Girl suggested talking to the manager the next day. Manager was just as stoic, not really caring about our situation at all and offering another room at the same price, saying that we weren't paying for the fireplace and that they have been out for years. So why in the heck do the reps at Wyndham offer this choice if it's defunct? That's absolutely misleading and you'd think she'd offer a better discount or another room for the next day but she definitely didn't want to try to impress a customer and initiate a great future relationship (we love Charlevoix and do intend to come back). This woman then goes on to say our neighbors were paying more for their room, like WHY exactly do I need to know, or care, what my neighbors are paying? I'm not usually this petty but heck, this is how I'll do if you can't even extend a common courtesy to people. So now I'll write an absolutely honest review. Sometimes the charm of the front desk keeps you coming back to hotels like this, but not in this case. The lobby area is super cute, and noticeably the better part of the facility. The inside needs a lot of work (it's dark and dingy along the hallways). The photos on line are somewhat misleading: the bedding doesn't match photos on line. You get a sheet and thin blanket, not that plush duvet they showcase. The pillows were very thick and firm so if that's not your thing then bring your own. The waffle mix they have out tasted a day old. They have great 24 hr coffee/tea options. The lady working in the breakfast area is an absolute sweetheart. Building windows all need replacing, you will notice the condensation from both sides. Our room in particular had exposed wiring from the light fixture in the bathroom which is an electric hazard. They are very stingy with shampoo and soap. Hot tub jets are orange moldy, they need to clean them better. Towels are for petite bodies only so plan on bringing one if that would bother you. Overall the room was relatively clean with exception of windows, tub jets and bedside table surfaces. We would have definitely stayed there again if not for the subpar and lackluster customer service. On a Monday night they could have kept another room occupied for a reasonable rate but it stayed empty and we won't ever return. Also, I heard our neighbors (who paid more than us) complain about something breaking off in their room. If you read through the reviews, this seems to be par for the course here with broken glass in pool and broken amenities. Having worked in hospitality myself, you have one interaction with which you can bring an insulted customer back, and if you blow that interaction, you've lost potential life long customers."
