"I switched to this Airgas store because I felt the people were friendlier and easier to deal with, but I recently witnessed something extra special. As I arrived to exchange cylinders, the customer ahead of me was trying to obtain oxygen cylinders for a quack medical cure for cancer for his wife, using ozone. They had run out of options, and he found articles on the internet about "making ozone" and introducing it intravenously - clearly this was unsafe information! Manager Jennifer Foote handled this man gently, as he was clearly desperate to help his wife, but she was able to turn him away with his dignity intact. She carefully explained the reasons why she could not meet his needs, suggested checking with a medical supply store (which she knew would also deny him) and sent him on his way. It was all I could do to stay out of the conversation and not tell him he had fallen for a quack cure. She later explained to me that she recognized that he would not accept her view on his plan, but that a medical supply store (presumably more knowledgeable about health matters) might be able to make him see that his quest was futile, if not outright dangerous. Jennifer handled this customer with gentleness and kindness, expressed her deepest sympathy for his predicament, and did not injure his dignity in any way. I was amazed, as I knew that I would not have handled this encounter nearly so well. Thank you Jennifer, I hope someone treats me as well if I make desperate but misguided requests in my own life."
