"Wouldn't send another loved one here if I could help it, if that can save anybody else from experiencing what we had. My mother in law had recently been admitted here to their ICU. When we came to be with her, I walked in and immediately felt like this place was CRITICALLY understaffed. I am not talking just a few people short--I am talking we saw MAYBE five staff members the entire time we were here. One of those people not even being a medical professional, but a food service person. This startled me, knowing that this meant less minds collaborating to get my family member the care they deserved/needed. I also want to note that this all was occurring on Christmas Day, which was less than ideal for everybody, BUT, that should not mean that my family member's quality of healthcare should be at an all time low just because the workers did not want to be there. Moral of the story is NONE of us wanted to be there--but we had to be. If you cannot deal with the crazy hours of healthcare, then GET OUT and find another occupation. Our nurse was snarky and rude and it was completely appalling. I will provide any example: an alarm was sounding on one of my mother in law's machines. Not a SINGLE medical professional came to check and see what it was. I really do not care if "you've heard that alarm a million times and it is nothing"--fact of the matter is that at least act like you care to see what is causing it and do your best to have some basic bedside manner and reassure the patient's family that it is nothing to be concerned about. These are high stress situations and that is the least a nurse can do--be comforting and reassuring. I also just think as a medical professional myself, that making assumptions in the medical field is the biggest mistake you can make. That is when critical mistakes are made, even life altering ones--maybe even death. TREAT EVERY ALARM LIKE IT IS SOMETHING SERIOUS. All of this aside--it was annoying/loud, my mother in law was trying to sleep after losing an extreme amount of blood and they just sat out at their station doing nothing. When I alerted the nurse that an alarm was going off in the room after several minutes of no movement from her, I said, "Excuse me, there is an alarm going off on her machine." In which she responds with an attitude: "Probably??". I understand my mother in law is not the easiest person to deal with, but that does not mean treatment toward her medically or us should have been ANY different. You take an oath with your job as a medical professional to provide the same quality of care to EVERYBODY--no exceptions. This response honestly had me stunned and I didn't even know what to say back. I refrained from making a scene because it is a healing environment, but I REALLY had to bite my tongue. I am sure I could figure out the nurse's name on medical records, but she was working the night of Christmas in the ICU and had medium brown hair that was long and curled. She was likely in her later 30s or 40s. Probably about 5'3"-5'5" & tanner complected skin. She could probably use some counseling on her bedside manner & etiquette. I have no issue throwing her under the bus. It was unacceptable and that is why I am writing this long review. After all of this nonsense, it took this hospital FAR too long for them to realize they were in over their heads and finally transfer my mother in law to Butterworth in GR where she received THE ABSOLUTE BEST CARE. I was in shock at how amazing Butterworth was & how lovely/professional the nursing staff/medical professionals were there. Thank goodness they finally came to their senses & transferred her so she didn't lose her life at the hands of an unqualified medical staff & critically understaffed hospital in Hastings! Yikes!"
"Let me say how much I despise the nurse who put my name on a child's birth certificate whom wasn't mine. Cost me $6,000, she needs to lose her job or get a new one and quit screwing people financially, may karma strike you."
"Praise for the care team that I had during my ER and 3 day stay. I can start in ER: Dr. Jennifer, NP Carrie, lab tech April and RN Jamie showed nothing but positive and professional care. Took time to explain and display areas of concern. Truly 5 star team! After being admitted was placed in ICU care. The team consisted of RN Kim mainly as it was a weekend and changes in nurses, Nurse Techs of day Tamara and night Elizabeth (Izzy). They are true professionals! Celebrating a birthday in the hospital was made fun and put me at ease through their cooperation. One other RN Melissa Olson also contributed to a 5 star stay. Nothing but praise for all and a big “Thank You” and yes I could remember their names"
"Well I'd love to rank this place higher especially since I was born here but unfortunately I can't at the moment because while most of the staff were great and Dr was very friendly, one of the nurses "Jackie" could not have made it any more clear how inconveniencing doing her job is. I felt like this person went out of their way to make this more stressful for us. I took my Dad to the ER and she slammed the door on us once because he was throwing up and making a bit of noise which it would have been fine if she had shut it and just simply said why. Then when I asked for blankets she said she would get them, told me I could go back to the room then slammed the door shut behind me and when she brought them very condescendingly pointed out the call button for the nurse. Which I realize is how they do it but from the stress of already being at the ER it didn't cross my mind. It would've been fine if she just explained it normally but it's not like we are here every day and know how everything works so you could at least have an ounce of compassion and not make annoyed remarks anytime we ask you anything. Everyone else did great but this left enough of a negative impression unfortunately"
