"I have lived here since 2020. I spent the majority of my college career here, and it was the first place I made my home. The buildings are clean, the woods are lovely, and it is a short bike ride away from downtown. My only qualms are with things that I think are specific to me, and specific to the previous property manager. The unit I was offered four years ago could have used additional work before it was rented out (i.e., new carpet, hidden holes fixed, etc), but I was 19 and didn't know what to expect or look for, lol. However, anything that direly needed fixing was fixed whenever I asked, and I do not believe this will be an issue with anyone moving in after me. I also am very pleased with how the transition between property managers has went. The new property manager has been going above and beyond in improving the property. New balconies, fixing old issues, and all around pleasant and reachable. I have a feeling that our pool that has been out of commission since 2019 will be fixed soon, lol. All in all, I had a great experience, and I am very sad to leave. New adventures await, and I am happy to have started here."
"DO NOT RENT HERE. I moved in August 2022 and it currently is October 31, 2022. In late september fleas infested my apartment (even though I have no pets and no furniture in the unit, I had only been staying there 3 days a week since I moved in). The problem still is not resolved to this day. Needless to say, I have not been living in the unit since the problem started. Now a month later, management is refusing to comp my rent for October even though they neglected to remedy the situation. Horrible place! Stay away! UPDATE: In early November, I ended up having to turn my key in and just leaving because management had an inability to remedy the situation and refused to let me out of my lease. Pretty terrible that they didn't have the courtesy to let someone out of their lease when they provided unkept premises infested with fleas. If that is the kind of person you want to enter into a rental agreement with, be my guest. I got a much better apartment that same month, and guess what? To this day (February 6th 2023) no fleas. I guess I wasn't the problem as they suggested."
"I have lived in Lake Street Apartments from 2015 until 2020 in the same 1-bedroom apartment. I was single for the first 4 years and was married during my last year. For a single individual, the 1-bedroom apartments are decent size and have decent amenities. The kitchen was small, but the gas stove was powerful and good for cooking. However, my oven leaked and everytime I tried to bake something my apartment would fill up with the smell of methane. I did not bother management since I did not bake that often. Once I got married, the kitchen became extremely small for 2 people and we realized we had to move out after I completed my degree. My furnace went out in 2018 and they replaced it and put in a brand new one pretty promptly. Typically if things went bad management was quick to respond. However, like other reviews, Louann is hard to get a hold of in her office, but if you text her she usually responds within an hour. Your experiences will depend on which building you lived in and who are your neighbors. In the beginning around 2015-2018, we had more tenants with families, and the amount of noise and smells (pot and cigarette) would be minimal. However, they raise your monthly rent every year by $10-20/month, and tenants with families eventually moved out to renting houses or bigger apartments. These relatively older tenants were replaced by younger tenants who tend to be a little louder (argue, shout, and play loud music) and smoke pot. Personally, I do not care what others do in their apartments but if the entire building reeked of pot and I have to smell weed through the ceiling and in my living room then it would get annoying. The pot smells started becoming more apparent from 2018 with the influx of more younger tenants. There is only 1 set of dumpsters in the front-middle of the parking lot and if you live all the way in the back, then you would have to walk a good 5 mins before you can throw your trash. Finally about the pool, I never used it (it only opened for a couple months during the summer) because I would see other tenants bringing their non-tenant friends over to the pool and they would either play loud music or drink alcohol around the pool area and eventually break some glass in the water. Each time it would require draining the water and refilling the pool again and management just stopped cleaning altogether since people were doing it too much. Still, I would recommend these apartments to anyone doing graduate studies at Kent State. Location is very close to campus and if your apartment faces the woods in the back of the property then it is very quiet and pleasant. However, beware of stink bugs as they would just show up constantly whenever there would be any temperature."
"I was in a 2 bedroom apartment at Lakestreet while in graduate school and have to say I really enjoyed my time there. The apartment is a 15 minute walk to campus or a 5 minute car ride. It was one of the most affordable apartments in the area as well. The apartment complex is a mix of students and families so we never really had any problems with parties or anything like that. The landlord was very nice and always responded to our calls or texts. The only things I didn't enjoy was the shared laundry system as there was only one washer/dryer in each building and having to submit a check every month as I would have preferred to pay online. However, those were minor details for me. Overall, my roommate and I had a good experience there and would recommend it, especially to students who want affordable housing without the "student" atmosphere."
"My experience in general with this apartment complex has been really positive (especially when comparing to the place that I came from). I had to dock a star because the manager was never there, but she was always very accessible through other means like call or text so I never really noticed too much of an issue. I had a problem with my AC and maintenance was in the next day to fix it. The apartment is a little dark, but it's nothing a lamp or two can't fix. They were always very good about letting you know if they needed to enter for one reason or another, and despite being a little outdated, the place is clearly well maintained."
