Myakka River State Park Ranger Station
About the Business
Located in Sarasota, Florida, the Myakka River State Park Ranger Station serves as a local government office and travel agency for visitors looking to explore the stunning natural beauty of the park. Effective Sept. 20, 2023, the park is open to visitors, but please note that the birdwalk is not wheelchair accessible. Canoe and kayak rentals are currently unavailable.
As of May 11, 2023, drinking water is temporarily unavailable within the park, so it is advised to bring your own water. Bottled water is available for free at the ranger station from 8 a.m. to sunset. Due to low water levels in the lake and river areas, boat tours are not operating and the boat ramp is closed to trailer-launched vessels. Some sections of the river may require portage for paddlers, so please contact the ranger station at 941-361-6511 for more information.
The Myakka River State Park is home to the majestic Myakka River, which flows through 58 square miles of pristine wetlands, prairies, and pinelands. Visitors can enjoy activities such as boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and biking along miles of scenic trails. Experience the beauty of arching palm trees, live oaks, and abundant wildlife including alligators, turtles, limpkins, and osprey. Immerse yourself in the natural wonders of Florida's first state-designated wild and scenic river at Myakka River State Park.

"Nice people working there. Very informative and passionate. Helpful and polite. They are perfect source of any park (and not only) related information."
"Never disappoints! Always wildlife and landscape photo ops! Saw 15 species of birds today...from rosette spoonbills and egrets to stilts and little blue juveniles... Lots of gators as always. Well worth the $6 entry fee."
"So glad to see that the bird walk is open. The canopy walk/ tower is fun with views of the area from the top 117 steps up. Camping in Big Flatts is a favorite."
"This place was amazing, we saw lot of armadillos and rabbits during the night, during the day we saw a lot of alligators and deers. The place was beautiful the canopy towel was beautiful, the ranger that was at the entrance was amazing and helped us every time we had questions. The camping amenities where clean every time we used them, we thought that there would be too much mosquitoes but there weren't that much. Sadly our tent got flooded the second night because our tent site had little unlevel spots and our tent wasn't the best for the heavy rain so have in mind if you are going to camp during bad weather. Even with bad weather we decided to stay a fourth night because the place is amazing."
"Great park for wildlife. We were going to ride our ebikes and there is plenty of road to ride. The gators were out when we rode through. The tower and bird walk were still closed from Ian so we will go back when those reopen."
