About the Business
Dunnellon Trailhead is a park located at 1279 West Withlacoochee Trail in Citrus Springs, Florida, United States. The trail captures the look of historic railroad bridges from the late 1800s, when Dunnellon was a booming town due to the discovery of phosphate. The 2.4-mile-long paved multi-use trail runs along a historic railroad bed along the Rainbow River, with trailheads located on both the Marion County and Citrus County sides. The trail, opened in May 2015, offers beautiful views from the Withlacoochee River trail bridge and allows visitors to see wading birds, alligators, and other wildlife. Visitors can walk, jog, inline skate, or bike along the trail, enjoying the scenic views and imagining the railroad days of the past.

"Paved trail, relatively new. We've been walking this since it was constructed, 10-15 minute no shade walk to the bridge, for a total of an easy one hour loop if you walk at a quick pace, great for burning calories and getting a feel for what Florida was like way back when. There are benches and seating areas if you need to rest or adjust your shoes. Also historical sign markers. Keep to the right because bikers fly by at times and don't call out a warning. Parking is sufficient."
"There is now a connector to the Withlacoochee State Trail, this adds appx 42 miles to the trail length Nice trail with side trails. Side trails are, both paved and unpaved. Just down the road from my house, I walk it 2-3 times a day. Photo is one of the unpaved side trails."
"Great place for a walk or short bike ride. Trails are wide and groomed so there's plenty of room for both directions, although there wasn't hardly anyone on it when I went. I think it may be one of those trails that is a good place for a nice quiet walk"
"Gorgeous view of the Withlacoochee river on the bridge, then you're able to stop and see the Rainbow river as well. The trail is kept clean, perfect to walk, jog, bike and bring your dog. There are portable restrooms at both ends of the trail and about halfway in the middle at Blue Run Park. This newish trail is one of Dunnellon's best features."
"This is a beautiful trail to walk, bike, run or rollerblade, the trail is completely paved with a bridge that crosses over the Withlacoochee river. The bridge has benches to sit on and there is also a side path (blue run path) past the bridge that will take you over next to 484 and the Rainbow river where you can find a bathroom. Many times we have seen wildlife along the trail from turtles, snakes, wild hogs and even alligators, bring your camera because you never know what you are going to see. Also the trail is well maintained its always being groomed to keep debris off the path and rhe grass in the sides is always kept nicely cut. The attched photos are from a recent visit on a beautiful November day."
