"Dr. Egberto Zayas was a ray of light during one of the darkest times of our lives. My father, Jorge Lopez, was diagnosed with terminal Pancreatic cancer in December 2014. From day ONE Dr. Zayas not only treated him physically but also and probably just as important, his emotional side too. When he initially told my dad that there was something there, he referred to the cancer as “tumorcito”. (Spanish word meaning tiny tumor) He understood that the word CANCER is a very scary word for most people. The word “tumorcito” made his diagnosis a lot easier to handle. Trust me when I tell you, when you are about to receive the worst news in your life, you are GRATEFUL for any softballs thrown your way. Thank you for that Dr. Zayas ♥ Dr. Zayas told us that my dad had maybe 4-6 months and told us that he did not want to put my dad through any treatment. He told my dad to go on vacation, eat whatever you want, and if you like to ‘drink’ a little, drink double.  His course of action was to make my dad’s last days as comfortable as possible. Although my father was 86 years old he had the heart and will to live of a 38 year old. He wanted to live and chose, against doctor’s orders, to get treatment. Dr. Zayas respected my dad’s wishes and started him on a very light chemo regiment. My dad passed 18 months after diagnosis. :’( He lived and died on his terms. Dr. Zayas is professional in every sense of the word. He is also kind, has an incredible bedside manner, respectful and sensitive to not only the patient but, their loved ones too. I pray that nobody HAS to ever meet this doctor ever in their lives. However, if cancer does enter your life, this is the man who you want to help guide you through that horrible time.
