"Hi, I was treated for prostate cancer with the 5 Day SABR - Florida Oncology Tavares starting on 5-05-20. For the most part, the treatments and facility experience was a good one. However, within a few weeks post radiation, I developed a severe amount of pain in the prostate area. Considering going to an emergency room, I called their office for help or advice and was told someone would get back to me. No one ever did, but thankfully, 3 ibuprofens and extra strength Tylenol got me through it. Often, within a few weeks to months of being treated, I supplemented with pain relievers, pain subsiding Almost completely within a year or so. Occasionally, having never before slight rectal bleeding during #2 potty visits, concerned, on 1-2-22 I went for a colonoscopy. The gastroenterologist found "radiation proctitis with mild bleeding that could be resolved with Argon Laser RX." The doctor said if it worsened, he recommended it. On 8-8-23 I bled through my clothes and into the couch I was sitting on, with no sensation of bleeding or awareness of it. Alarmed, I called back to Florida Oncolgy in Tavares, hoping to get some guidance. I was assured someone would get back that day, and again, no call back. My PSA numbers have been below 1 since my treatments (VG). My pain level is down to slight "lower gi" discomfort, with no medication. Maybe negligently, I haven't been re-examined to see if my cancer is gone, yet it wasn't recommended either. There's a tried and tested pre-radiation treatment called SpaceOar. If I would've done this, I probably would be fine. It's often done pre-prostate radiation. Also, FYI, there is a newer test for Prostate Cancer - EpiSwitch (PSE) - supposedly a much more accurate test than PSA's. God Bless, ... Best to Ya."
