"After taking covid shots and I took a booster shot and BAMM!!! Not only did I was admitted to the covid wing, but my blood sugar was 458! Then they discovered why I was losing weight. It was a mass in my stomach lining which proved to be cancerous! All of this in one visit! I was shocked to say the least!!! I was referred by the Borland Groover Firm to DR NIRAJ GUSANI to surgically remove the GIST and set appointments with MDA Cancer Treatment Center. I was so anxious and had a million questions. Dr Gusani's team answered EVERY question, and took EVERY call. He came in the room and described every detail and why..I must say that the surgery went extremely well but I was hesitant to take a look at the incisions. I took a look and it was BEAUTIFUL and it was exactly how he said it would be!!! Very little downtime!! He is an excellent doctor and I will recommend him in a heartbeat!! As a matter of fact I'm an announcer here in Jacksonville for over 40 years and am I can't wait to have him on my show!!! If you pick Dr Niraj Gusani for your surgical needs, you've picked a WINNER!! My family and friends and listeners Thank you"
"In April of 2021 I had 2 CT scans in Brunswick, GA. The first one was a regular CT scan with contrast and the 2nd one was a more sophisticated CT scan called a triple scan or multi phase scan. The radiology reports after both scans stated that most likely the 3cm mass in my liver was a hemangiona..which is a benign tumor, I did not trust these reports so I made a self referral to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville, GA. After a careful review of the profiles of the many oncologists at this cancer center I chose Dr. Niraz Gusani, MD, FACS. This decision ended up being a wise choice as this fine doctor ended up saving my life. During my first appointment with Dr. Gusani he informed me that he had read the two previous CT scan radiology reports as well as looking at the film of these tests, He told me something just did not feel right to him about these diagnoses and that he was going to order a tumor marker blood test and and MRI with contrast for me, The blood test showed that my AFP was elevated and the MRI showed that the mass in my liver was most likely a malignant mass. Dr. Gusani then, after consulting with my family doctor decided to do a biopsy. The biopsy determined that the mass in my liver was HCC...heptocellular carcinoma. A C scan on my lungs was then ordered by Dr. Gusani to make sure that the cancer had not metastisized to other areas of my body. It came back clear so a liver resection surgery was scheduled for May 25th. For this surgery Dr. Gusani assembled a team of doctors who were there for the entire 4 hour surgery. This major surgery was very complex and highly technical and required every surgical skill Dr. Gusani had to complete it satisfactorily. The surgery was initially planned to be done laparascopically but once it was determined that that tumor was backside of my liver and not accessible by laprascopic means it required Dr. Gusani to elevate the surgery to include open surgery. At that time Dr. Gusani went in to my stomach cavity with his right hand and turned my liver over so that it could re reached laprascopically with his left hand. He then removed the tumor with an electrocautery scalpel. This entire surgery was done flawlessly and NO complications or problems arose during the procedure which required intervention. I tolerated this major surgery very well and was taken to my surgical ward bed in stable condition. A short while later Dr. Gusani visited my room and discussed in detail the surgery he had just performed. He then told me what he needed for me to do for the next 3 days to assist in my recovery process so I could be released to go home. Three days after the surgery I was released. It is worthy to note that most liver resections done in the manner mine was usually require a 5 day hospital stay. But because of Dr. Gusani's expertise I was able to go home earlier. Let me share a couple facts with you related to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in general and Dr. Gusani specifically. The MD Anderson Cancer Center system is considered to be the #1 cancer hospital in the nation. Dr. Gusani is considered to be the best oncology liver surgeon using laparacopic means in this entire hospital system. The mortality rate nationally for this type of surgery is 2.5%. Dr. Gusani's record is 1%. This speaks volumes about Dr. Gusani's expertise because he does not get to cherry pick his surgical patients. He has to take them all with a wide array of premorbidities and possible complications. I owe Dr. Gusani my life. If he had not taken the steps he did to determine my true diiagnosis and act accordingly in conducting my surgery I would have been gone by Christmas. I would strongly encourage anyone needing liver surgery to chose MD Anderson as their oncology hospital and Dr. Gusani as their surgeon. You deserve the very best of care and expertise and this hospital and surgeon are the best...period. Sincerely, Randolph C. Little"
"More than 7 years ago, my father was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He chose to see Dr. Gusani, who saved his life. In fact, because of Dr. Gusani, and his wonderful team, I am blessed to say that my father is now not only surviving, but thriving, in a post-PanCan life, that seemed near impossible when we first received the diagnosis. Dr. Gusani's unparalleled expertise and remarkable bedside manner were comforting for our family, as a whole, and clearly the difference-maker in handling a traumatic experience with such skill."
"Dr. Gusani gave my husband many extra years of life. My husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2017. At the time of the diagnosis he was considered inoperable and was given a 2 to 3 percent chance of living past a year. After 3 and 1/2 months of aggressive chemo to everyone's surprise he had a small window of having surgery. Dr. Gusani performed the the surgery. It turned out the tumor was deeply embedded into my husband's back. I feel many surgeons would have closed him up and not continued the surgery. Dr. Gusani slowly and meticulously worked on the tumor for 12 hours. I'm so very thankful to Dr. Gusani for his determination and skill. He is very kind and caring. I would highly recommend him. My husband and i continue to be thankful for each and every day."
