"Patients beware! I went to Dr. Gray in Aug. 2014 for a surgery that millions of women receive every year -- removal of an ovary. Dr. Gray performed the surgery laporoscopically and in the process perforated my colon. As a result, I had to have a second emergency surgery as sepsis had set in and I awoke to having a permanent colostomy bag. While I have adapted emotionally and physically to this, it was not a simple surgery and 4 surgeries later over the following 24 months (for a total of 6) and I'm still not healed. Imagine waking up to hear your surgeon say, "I'm so sorry, I've never made a medical mistake in my life." I could not believe that she was actually admitting a mistake. I now know why. Although it is not my style to pursue legal action, I consulted the largest medical malpractice group in Tampa and was sadly advised that as an employee of the state (USF), Dr. Gray did not have to carry malpractice insurance as she could not be sued for an amount greater than $25,000. They confirmed that she did not optionally carry malpractice insurance therefore it was not a case that they would take given the time it would take to research. At least I didn't die...."
