"The therapists in this office are inexperienced and dismissive. My 6 year old saw 2 therapists in this office and both were freshly out of school and new to practicing. My daughter was a client at Ellie Mental Health for 3 months because she was showing signs of severe anxiety and intense meltdowns (2+ hours). She was also acting out at school so badly that we had to take her out of 2 schools and then homeschool her. She would just get up and spin in circles and lay on the floor. There were other concerns as well. She started off seeing someone for 2 sessions but that person left the practice so she started seeing Meg. The first person my daughter saw had not created a treatment plan of any kind. She also told my daughter that she would be at her next session, when she would meet the person taking over care, but she was not there. For a kid who wasn’t feeling well with transitions and change, this was upsetting. I asked Meg if she would be doing any diagnostic tests and creating a treatment plan. She created a treatment plan and told my husband that she planned to work with my daughter on techniques to calm down when she gets upset. She spent the sessions showing my daughter techniques for dealing with being worried. We told Meg that it wasn’t working and we thought that something else was going on. Meg said that it was just my daughter’s age and that tantrums were normal. We had expressed to her that it wasn’t a normal tantrum (I have a PhD and psychology and I was a teacher for 4 years so while I’m not a child or counseling psychologist, I knew that it wasn’t normal). I felt like neither therapist was listening to our concerns. My daughter is seeing another therapist and getting the diagnoses she needs. I don’t want to share what her mental health issues are, because I want to respect her privacy, but I do want to say that any qualified mental health professional would be able to see that my daughter’s behavior isn’t “normal.”"
