"I went to this Family Dollar and spent $24.75 to purchase several items needed for my new house in the neighborhood. The store is very convenient (less than a mile from my new home) and has plenty of choices from which to select. My complaint is with their payment practices. I tried to use my chip-enabled Bank card, which can be utilized as a Credit card or as a Debit card, to pay for my purchases. I prefer to use my bank card as a Credit card, since I am hesitant to enter my bank pin number at the register. However, the Clerk on the register had no idea how I could switch to pay using the card as a Credit card - there was no indication on the card reader. Accordingly, I had to enter my Pin #, which I did. The register took an extremely long time to process (several minutes). Accordingly, the Clerk asked me to hit the red X on the keypad to cancel the transaction and try again. She indicated that the register she was using (there are two registers side-by-side) was "much slower" than the other register. Once the initial transaction cancelled, I promptly re-entered my chip-enabled card to process the payment. The register again took an unusually long time (another several minutes) to process. Since the line at the register was growing and I felt bad that it was taking so long, I told the Clerk that if she preferred, she could cancel the transaction and I would simply pay with cash. She agreed and told me to again hit the red X button to cancel the debit transaction, which I did. She indicated the transaction had been cancelled, and I gave her $30 to cover my purchases. She gave me my change and a receipt, and she verbally confirmed that the transaction had been cancelled. However, the next day, when reviewing an email summary of recent purchases from my bank, lo and behold, the charge of $24.75 appeared as a debit from my bank account! The Clerk had verbally assured me the card transaction had been cancelled, but this was simply not the case!! Accordingly, I promptly went to this Family Dollar store later that day to obtain a refund of the cash paid after showing them my bank statement indicating that the charge had gone through on my debit card, and I was told that there was nothing they could do - I would have to deal with my bank to get the funds back. WHAT!!! When I looked closely at the receipt, I noticed that it indicated the Pin was verified (I guess this was an indication that the purchase had been processed to my card, even though the machine seemed to be hung up on "processing") and also indicated that I had paid cash in the amount of $24.75. I truly feel that my cash should have been refunded immediately. I am sure the store's register showed an overage, since the store in essence received a double payment!! Accordingly, I had to contact my bank and lodge a dispute on the transaction, which I did. This makes you wonder, however, how may other people have been overcharged. Accordingly, I highly recommend you check your receipt against your credit/bank card statements to ensure you too are not being double charged!! So, to the Family Dollar shoppers for this store on N. Citrus Blvd. in Citrus Springs, FL, all I can say is SHOPPER BEWARE!!"
