"I went to Shoal Creek Supply this morning, having purchased from them on one other occasion back in July of this year. The first time I went, I purchased about $1,000 of 1x spruce trim and nickel gap shiplap. This visit I planned to purchase about twice as much as my previous trip. As I walked in, there were 2 men behind the counter. [Note: I was the only customer in the store.] The first man behind the counter, an older gentleman who previously helped me, was on the phone. The other man behind the counter seemed to be wrapping up another transaction - perhaps an order that was called in before I arrived. I waited and, when the second man appeared to have completed what he was doing, he asked what he could help me with. As I started to tell him I was interested in purchasing spruce trim, he turned his attention back to doing paperwork , which I assume was for the previous transaction. I stopped speaking and waited for him to finish what he was doing. Appearing to once again be done with what he was doing, he asked me what I needed - again. I told him I was there to purchase spruce trim but, before I could tell him what size and how many, he turned his attention back to writing down numbers from another transaction and punching buttons on his calculator. As he looked down, he asked if I needed any nails with my order. I answered "No sir" and waited until he finished calculating and writing on an order pad for someone else's purchase . When he was done, he told me he needed to send a text. Again, I waited. After he finished his text, he again asked me what I needed. This time he managed to focus long enough to jot down the first 2 items I needed - 10 1x4's and 10 1x6's, which he wrote down and promptly returned to doing other paperwork. He asked me a few other questions (Was I sure I wanted spruce? Did it look like the casing around the window behind the counter? Was I able to haul 16 foot boards?...etc.), each time turning his attention back to what he was previously doing. In hindsight, the questions seemed to be a delay tactic while he finished something that was clearly more pressing than taking my order. I finally had enough and decided to leave. As I got up and started walking out, he asked me if I needed nails, never really looking up from his paperwork long enough to notice I was leaving. I'm just a homeowner with a home renovation project, not a homebuilder, so I guess my business is unimportant to them."
