Reviews of Lace Alterations
"I had the best experience at Lace Alterations for my bridal gown alterations! I had requested a custom removable sleeve build that was absolutely perfected. I had given a general idea of what I was hoping it would look like, and Irena made it better than I was even imagining. On top of that, I didn't even have my own fabric to provide, so they were willing to use additional materials they had to make the removable sleeve jacket for me. The hem and bustle was done perfectly as well. I highly recommend Lace Alterations - they are reliable, extremely thorough, and talented!!!!"
"I was honestly so traumatized/angry about my experience here that I never left a review, but I’ve since calmed down and can look back at my experience objectively. I bought a dress back in 2020, and got it altered here in the summer of 2021. The dress fit me almost perfectly, but I just wanted to shorten the straps the tiniest bit because I don’t have a very large bust and didn’t fill that part of the dress out well. The seamstress convinced me to also take in the waist, even though I expressed that I didn’t want to be uncomfortable or have the bodice be too tight to where I couldn’t move freely. She assured me that it was necessary and that “all wedding dresses are supposed to have tight bodices”, so I believed her and said ok. She also wanted to hem the dress (I’m 5’10” and it was the perfect length already) but I said no. I came back exactly 1 month before my wedding, and much to my dismay, my dress had been absolutely destroyed. Not in the sense that it was unwearable, but in a way that it looked like a completely different dress on me. Over the few short weeks they had my dress, I did not gain/lose any weight, nor did my body change. The way they altered the dress was completely unflattering on my body and not at all what I wanted. It looked as though the dress was being pulled apart at the back. Apart from that, they also never informed me that bustling was a thing. To be fair it’s not their job to tell me that bustling is a thing that people do, but I was a first-time bride, and had never even heard of it before. It wasn’t until I took my dress to my mother-in-law‘s tailor to be fixed that she told me that I would probably want to have it bustled for the reception. I was so grateful that my new seamstress (NOT HERE) was able to take me on such short notice, and did her best fixing my dress after the whole disaster. It didn’t look as nice as it had originally because they took so much fabric away that she wasn’t able to do much, but it kept me from having a mental breakdown the week before my wedding! In the pictures I’ve attached you can see the before any alterations (fit almost perfectly) and then after the first round of alterations where the whole dress is being pulled apart (plus the quick and perfect bustle that my new seamstress pinned while I was in her store)"
"I chose Lace Alterations to alter my wedding gown because it's made almost completely of lace. My gown needed a bustle, hemmed a few inches shorter, cups added to the bust, straps shortened, and it was a little too small around the waist area. Because there was no extra fabric to be let out in that area, the person who worked on my dress suggested that she cut a deeper "V" in the back to allow more room. I agreed, but wish I had understood how that would change the structure of the dress in the front. I now understand that what I really needed was a dress size larger. I paid $1,000 for these alterations and had 3 appointments. On the second appointment, everything was complete except the straps being shortened. On the 3rd appointment, the straps were done and I tried on the gown for only a moment to see if they were at a good length. I wish I had tried to move around in it more at this appointment, like sitting down and moving my arms around. On my wedding day, the cups weren't tight enough because the back had been cut lower than it was designed to be. Therefore, there wasn't enough structure to pull the cups snug in the front. I used fashion tape to secure the front, but it wasn't strong enough to keep everything in place, and my bust kept slipping. I had to constantly re-adjust and make sure it wasn't gapping which was really disappointing and made me uncomfortable. You can see in the photo I attached how the back was gapping/rippling because there wasn't anything holding it in place. I had to keep perfect posture in order to keep the dress where it was supposed to be, which made it difficult to hug people and pose for pictures. I was really happy with the bustle, friendliness of the staff and timeliness of the service I received. I just wish that I had understood textile structure better before I walked out of Lace Alterations with my completed gown. I would have asked for a solution if I had known how uncomfortable my gown would be once I had the chance to move around in it."
"I cannot say enough wonderful things about the team at Lace Alterations!!! They made me feel so comfortable, appreciated, and informed from the first time I stopped in to inquire with Gloria about my wedding dress alterations. They made so many special accommodations for me and my girls and if something wasn't exactly what I was expecting or wanted, they went back and fixed it for me no questions asked. They did all of my bridesmaids dresses as well and really took such good care of them, offering discounts and allowing a few of my girls to come back multiple times for the trickier dresses (their dress material was extremely delicate, and they altered them very carefully making sure they came out beautifully). I was a bit of a handful when it came to alterations, but they were with me every step of the way and had no problem making sure my vision was executed to perfection. My dress came in a few sizes too big because I had lost a lot of weight between ordering and arrival. My dress has so many delicate lace details and a lot of boning, but the ladies at Lace were able to work their magic and take everything in without compromising the integrity or design of the dress - and it fit like a glove!! They showed my multiple bustle options and we picked one that looked so beautiful and natural for my dress. They even did some custom work for me, adding custom made straps that we designed together from scratch with spare lace and taking a piece of my mom's old wedding dress and sewing it into the underskirt of my own dress. It meant the absolute world to me to have that piece of her dress on mine and that they took such good care of her dress and mine. The attention to detail that Lace gives to each and every piece they work on is outstanding and the communication and responsiveness along the way is so friendly and reassuring. These women are truly so talented and so kind, I highly recommend them for your alterations journey. I had a seriously amazing experience here! Thank you SO much Lace Alterations!!!"
