"Visited on a cold and wet winters night and they were not busy at all. My wife and I really enjoyed the decorating and unique history on the walls. We also liked that the staff mentioned we are free to wander around and walk up to the roof patio. The atmosphere was quite loud due to a group on the second floor. I'm sure this is better when the windows are open. We thought the food was good. Our cocktails came out late due to short staff but they were tasty. Honestly, alcohol being on the menu at a spot that seems more focused on really over the top shakes seems rather unusual. We ended up just having our cocktails as our dessert. We would most likely visit again when its warm out."
"Good sandwiches and soup. Seems pricey for a sandwich, but I guess everything going up since Covid. Margarita was $8 for a small glass too."
"This is a great place to grab a bite! It's right next to the tracks, so you get to see trains going by pretty often. Great place for kids and families, they have some great menu items for little ones and some games on the table to keep them entertained. The food is outstanding! Be aware their milkshakes are HUMONGOUS and should probably be shared by 2 or 3 people. They have a lot of great choices and sides, and the service has always been great every time we go! Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!"
"Are you ready for Christmas? It’s early November. The seating is limited. They have a great sandwich and milk shake menu. The staff is super friendly and helpful. You will definitely be impressed! Bring the kids."
"Each time we pass the Whistle Stop on Main Street we talk about eating lunch up on the roof. We finally did! It was one of the first cool days of the season, so a great day to eat on the rooftop patio. To get to the roof, you go up two wooden staircases past walls covered in local pictures and memorabilia from the 1920s-50s. The patio is furnished sparingly with a few light pink vintage-style tables and chairs. I think it is designed to be reinvented according to the crowd (eating, drinking, catered parties). The restaurant was not very busy mid-afternoon, but we drove by when it was packed. The covered patio on the roof has 270-degree open-air views of Ooltewah's main street, including a quintessential brick church, mountain views, and a railroad crossing. The diners at the table next to us indulged in the Whistle Stop's signature milkshakes. The large shakes were topped with a mound of whipped cream and dripping in chocolate. I was tempted to skip lunch and order a milkshake, but I decided to save that for another day. Bob and I each ordered a local beer and a Cobb salad. The beer was cold, and the salads were huge. I liked that the salads came in a large bowl and the greens were finely chopped. I have had so many Cobb salads served on a plate, so when you cut the lettuce, it spills over the edge of the plate. Even though we would have preferred grilled chicken (they only have (lightly) breaded chicken), the salads were delicious. My chianti basil vinaigrette dressing was a perfect compliment. They also had an assortment of specialty sandwiches with names like "the Conductor, The Pullman, and the Ooltewah Depot. Did I mention milkshakes, floats, and malts? Overall, the food and service were great. We heard the train whistle, but never saw the train, but we will return to try the sandwiches and desserts!"
