J Curtis Arey Psychotherapy

"Dr Arey was one of the worst therapists I've ever had. He would constantly disagree with things I would tell him about myself, including my gender, and would make large assumptions about me and ignore me when I corrected him. He was very freudian in his thinking and insisted we focus on discussing my relationship with my father, even when I brought up suicidal urges all he did was ask if I would still be alive by next session, and if I said yes then he would go back to wanting to discuss my father and not my depression! He also threatened to charge me extra money for every minute late I was, instead of helping me with my adhd issues of time management. I don't cry easily but I left every session to cry in my car afterwards. When I would bring up my concerns he would simply tell me all therapy is difficult and I have to be willing to go through it to get better, and insisted that if i wanted to stop seeing him I needed to come in for "just one more session". He basically manipulated me into continuing visits and I only was able to stop seeing him at the recommendation of another therapist. Beware!!"
