"I was hospitalized here and oftentimes felt like they were understaffed. I did not appreciate the unwillingness of some nurses to provide medications on a scheduled regimen. I feel that the psychiatrist(s) I spoke with could’ve put more time into my care and instead spent about ten minutes with me and charged me for a full thirty minute session each time. I did not like that the patient rooms had to remain locked unless we had a “doctor’s order”. I feel that they should remain unlocked so each patient can have the same opportunity to lay down, if needed and communicated. Overall, this was a positive experience, as much as it could be. The staff in my unit were all very kind and friendly. I am grateful for the support they gave."
"I was sent here in 2018 involuntary at 12 years old. The mental health workers were extremely nasty and unprofessional. They sat us all in the common room and told us we were “taking up space for people who really needed it”. In group therapy if you weren’t comfortable telling all your business the staff would shame you. The day I was discharged two employees pulled me into a room to ask me “what i learned from this” and if i’d “ever do this again” like i was a criminal who committed a crime. I was a child who needed help and the staff here did a great job of making me feel like i was the biggest waste of their time. Great place to send someone you hate."
"There are definitely a lot of things that can be improved with the program but I can not begin to list every one of the staff members who made a huge difference in my stay at Willowbrooke. I especially would like to say that Dr. Barnett is one of the best and most compassionate mental health doctors I have ever known. I would also like to recommend that Ms. Daffney and Mr. Theo get raises and are protected at all costs as they are two of the most caring staff members of any hospital I've ever been to. I really cant say how much some of the staff made the program as helpful as it was to me at a really bad time in my life. Ms. Adelle and Colton were pretty great on night staff too, and two ladies on the weekend that I can't believe I can't remember their names, one had a cute fanny pack and was as kind as they come. I'll leave it there but I just wanted to say thank you guys and I see all the good you guys do!"
"My entire life I have suffered extreme “ups and downs” that was constantly used against me. After having my son, I had severe postpartum for 4 years. I went to numerous doctors, counselors, the emergency room, neurologists, psychologists, chiropractors… you name it, I tried it. For four years I battled the worst ups and downs, psychosis, and suicidal thoughts and impulsiveness. After four years, the worst mental breakdown I experienced happened. I was 10-13 for 3 days. The hospital tried discharging me, but I fought for myself. I chose to go to Willowbrooke. I knew it was the only chance I had and the only route I hadn’t taken as I didn’t want to be embarrassed or take the chance of losing my child. I remember how scary it was being taken away in the ambulance but I was so optimistic. I had the best experience here. I went to every class, I forced myself to interact and not put myself in a hole. I was adamant about the medications I didn’t want to be on from being slapped with them all in the face over the four years prior. I used all of the coping mechanisms and still do to this day. The last couple days before being discharged, they included my husband in counsel sessions and helped give us keys to the doors of transitioning back into reality. 2 1/2 years later, I can say it was the best thing and place to happen to me! If you go in with good intentions, respect, and a willingness to get better and more healthy, you will succeed. If you fight against everyone trying to help you and you don’t stand up for your mental health and feelings, you will not succeed. It’s how strong or how weak are you going to be. They can’t fix you if you won’t fix yourself. I love Willowbrooke and should I ever have to go again, I will do so in a heartbeat. Oh and the FOOOOOOOOD! I absolutely loved it! I was also vocal about us needing outdoor time and physical time, so I was able to get those of us with good behavior both of those things. It took a couple days, but it happened. We got to go in the “quad area”, the qoi pond/garden, and yoga! In the end, I was diagnosed with Bipolar II and was medicated properly. I’ve stayed on top of that which is the absolute key to continuing bettering your health."
"Do not I repeat, do not go here! They will lie and tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign those papers and once you do, there is no way out. Period you will never feel like less of a human than you will in Willowbrook. This place is psychological warfare. It is not designed for treatment. It is designed for punishment you will be confined to a day room with chairs that are designed to be uncomfortable from 8 AM to 9 PM. Once you’re allowed to go to sleep, you will be waking up every 15 minutes. Nobody will answer your questions. There is nobody there to help an a medical emergency. You will see a doctor or a therapist for five minutes every day they will not help you. They will not listen to you, and they above all will not let you leave. Their only goal is to keep you there as long as your insurance will pay, the people who work here are sick. These people are not trained in medication management, nor do they have the authority to give you anything to help you. Only the doctors do which you only can see for five minutes a day if you even see them for five minutes. Nobody will answer your questions they will lie to your face. There is no way out of here except for a doctor to release you. I’ve been home for one week. I signed myself in with a promise that I could leave after 72 hours after 72 hours when I asked about this, it was completely false. They lied to me and my husbands face. I ended up being trapped here for six days with endless blood work being done with no explanations covered in bruises my body still hurts. The facility is filthy. The staff are so on compassionate. The doctors are jokes. This is all a scam for insurance money. Unfortunately, you are just a paycheck. Do not believe a word anyone who works here says it is a lie."
