"The Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville is an extraordinary entity. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, life changes, and that person and his or her family looks for hope. The people at the Proton Therapy Institute work together to provide outstanding care and a calming atmosphere. Even before I became an established patient, the lady that contacted me about an appointment was very nice and made me feel at ease. Upon entering the building every day of my treatment, I was met by a security guard that always had a smile on his face and always offered a pleasant word, and he did the same as I left. As soon as I entered the facility, I was met by a very pleasant lady who worked at the front desk. She was always helpful and friendly, and happily directed me where I was to go. She always made the patients feel at ease, even making coffee for them. The ladies who took my vitals were also very pleasant and would smile and start a pleasant conversation every time I came to them to have my blood pressure, weight and temperature taken. Even the finance officer offered a kind word when I walked past her office on my way to therapy. The radiation therapists were wonderful. Every day for 35 days, one of them would come to get me and take me back for my treatments, and on every one of those 35 days, I was met with a smile and a pleasant conversation. They really made a difficult situation bearable and always put me at ease. The Institute even offers a tour of the radiation therapy rooms and provides an overall explanation of how the proton therapy pencil beam radiation is administered. The people leading the tours were very knowledgeable and reassuring about the process. I can’t say enough good things about the nurse I saw weekly. She kept in touch with me to make sure I didn’t have any questions or that everything was going well, and honestly wanted me to call her if I was unsure about anything. My radiation oncologist was the greatest! He knew from reading through My Chart that clear margins had not been obtained from my first surgery and that a second surgery showing clear margins would bring about a better outcome before I started proton therapy. He connected me with a sarcoma specialist who had extensive surgical experience in this rare cancer, and then he designed a radiation program that would destroy any remaining cancer cells. He was supportive and positive, and offered me a realistic description of what I should expect. When I finished my last treatment, my medical team was there to cheer when I rang the bell. Right now, I have no detectable cancer and, hopefully, it stays that way, but I have every confidence if it could be eradicated from my body, the professional and empathetic care I received from the team at the Proton Therapy Institute, along with the prayers of many who were giving me care, will provide me with the best possible outcome."
"My daughter is taking Proton Radiation treatments here. What an awesome and amazing place. The care she has received is 100% top notch. If this type of treatment can or would help you or your family member you will not be disappointed with the outpouring love, compassion & support from the staff at UFHealth."
"I am truly grateful for UF Proton Therapy Institute. From my radiologist, the technicians administering the treatment and scans, to the reception, they saved my life. I am blessed to have them on my team! They are, without a doubt, one of the best facilities in the country..."
"My care team for breast cancer at UF Proton Therapy Institute has been excellent. My radiation oncologist, Dr Brooks, is super intelligent and very compassionate. His RN, Barbara, is caring, sweet, funny and competent. My radiation techs, Cindy & Chuck (and their student, Olivia) took care of me on a daily basis and I was able to trust their expertise without question. They made me laugh daily and I will genuinely miss seeing them. Every staff member has been kind to me in the midst of very difficult circumstances. I’m so happy with my choice to use UF Proton Therapy Institute and highly recommend it."
