Reviews of Star Provisions Market & Cafe
"We wanted a spot to post up while we did a little work and also grab a bite to eat at the same time. Our research led us to Star Provisions. It was our first time so we were excited to try it, especially since it smelled so good when you walked in. We ordered the granola and yogurt bowl, a chicken biscuit, and the Korean beef sandwich. The granola and yogurt bowl was nice, not too sweet, and the chicken biscuit was really good. My husband liked his sandwich but said the bread was almost too chewy and wished it had a bit more flavor, but he enjoyed it. Overall, we would definitely try the food again. The sore part of our experience was the customer service at the front counter. There were two employees working the front counter at the time of our visit. The guy seemed really quiet but made sure to greet us and answer our questions at least. However, the young woman did not greet us and seemed short and not very warm. As a woman, I never assume another woman has to do a show and dance of “politeness” to make others feel comfortable, but this is the hospitality industry. Being hospitable should be the bare minimum. My husband even went back to order something else with his coffee and asked if she had recommendations for pastries. She responded with a shrug, “I mean, it’s whatever you like.” She didn’t bother asking any questions about his preference or try to suggest something. You work at a bakery. Someone asking you for recommendations is not outlandish. He ended up just getting his coffee and leaving it at that. Didn’t want to spend anymore money. It just seemed we were not the type of customers she felt she needed provide above and beyond service to. The rest of the staff were nice, specifically the person who was going around delivering the food to each table. They were wearing a baseball cap. Based on the reviews it’s obvious Star Provisions is a local favorite and customers rave about the service. It was just not our experience. This was January 23rd, 2024 at around 2pm."
"My uncle and I decided to do brunch, and with him being picky, I had to make sure the menu was good! I found this place, as the sandwiches sounded good and they have a small market you can buy meat and cheese from. We tried the shrimp po boy and korean beef, both with apple salad. I got a cappuccino, and he got a ginger beer. When the food came, the presentation was unimpressive. I opened my sandwich, and the bread to meat ratio was definitely not 1 to 1. My uncle liked the shrimp and kept complimenting on how it was perfectly cooked, but the po boy had no sauce! The sauce sometimes makes the sandwich, and with this key element missing, the sandwich didn't come together. I found my sandwich extremely underwhelming. The Korean beef missed the mark on that umami flavor, and the kimchi that's supposed to be in the sandwich was just coleslaw. I mean, it wasn't spicy and didn't have enough heat! So for this to be sparse and the flavor composition being bland, I wasn't thrilled with my sandwich. Now the bread at this place is out of this world! It was flaky and soft, which was excellent for the sandwiches! My uncle and I loved the bread, but we had hoped our sandwiches were better. The cappuccino was ok. The staff is super friendly and we enjoyed them while they took our order and brought our food! I did get prosciutto and salami to take home, and I found this meat to be excellent! The market had some cool items for sale and a good assortment of specialty cheeses. I'll come back and try a different sandwich, but I highly recommend this place for the bread and friendly service."
"Lemon bar and brown sugar shortbread bar were delicious. The peach pan pie was also good. Had the egg bacon roll and it was okay. Everything bagel toasted with butter was decent, though a bit more chewy than normal. Coffee was delicious. Would come back."
"The building is beautifully designed, bright, and spacious. The shop “provisions” were a mixture of well known and up and coming local food brands. We ordered several sausage biscuit sandwiches and espresso coffee. The biscuit had a great texture and crumble, but the coffee may have been over extracted and a bit bitter to my taste. They use Dancing Goat coffee. Overall a solid experience, but lacking on the finishing touches. Can’t wait to hear back to try more of the menu in their outdoor patio seating space."
"I've had Star Provisions on my list of places to try for quite some time. My first visit did not disappoint. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and concerned with providing the best customer experience. The team answered any questions customers had, and offered advice to make sure choices aligned with what customers truly wanted. The crispy chicken biscuit was great. The sweet pickles added the right contrast to the crispy chicken and flaky, savory biscuit. The everything bagel was everything. Great cured salmon, well spiced seasoning, crispy pickled onions, and a fresh salad to lighten up the chew from the bagel. The Winter squash soup was like Harvest and Holidays in a bowl. It was warm, velvety, and comforting. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, a definite must visit."
