Econo Lodge Huntington - Barboursville University Area

"My wife and I checked into this hotel in late September 2023 around midnight because we had been driving all night and we're exhausted. The first room we were given smelled like cigarettes and the stench was so bad we requested another room. This motel is very run-down. The exterior paint is chipping off the walls and steps. The walkways were filthy and I was shocked at how dirty it was - especially having to pay over $100 for one night. The second room that we were given was not much better and throughout our one night stay we discovered that the room had several bugs in it....dead and alive. The bathroom was also dirty and had stains on the wall and ceiling. The motel was sold out and we couldn't get another room. The following morning we took a cup that we deposited several dead bugs into and took it to the front desk. The clerk explained that she would have to check with the general manager about any sort of a refund. When we finally were able to speak to the general manager much later (he would never return calls), he acted very unsympathetic and hung up on me on the phone - despite me being polite about the situation. I would NOT advise anyone to stay here. It's a dump."

"This is a very good hotel. The desk clerk was friendly. We got a smoking room, but it didn't stink. It was nice and clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and I'm pretty fussy about that. Overall, it could use updating, but only for cosmetic reasons. Everything was functional. On a Saturday night, the final price with military discount was just under $80. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends."

"Well since covid this place has gone down in service and quality!!! Who makes you stay in the lobby to eat a non breakfast....they offer nothing but minimal items, however you can't leave with them....ridiculous!!!! The rooms are about the same....same ole same ole just place to stay!!!!"

"There seemed to be one guy running the place and he is very, very good. Got in very late at night and he was there; got out early in the morning and he was there. Hotel is reasonably priced. Only reason why I knocked off a star is because of some minor blemishes in the room, but it was clean. Would stay here again."

"I can’t describe my stay because unfortunately I was unable to check in! I made a reservation for a stay for the night and not only did the hotel manager on staff this evening not honor my military status but would not allow me to check in because it wasn’t 3pm. I just came off a long drive at 1am in the morning and instead of being accommodating, I was met poor customer service. I had to not only wait 15 minutes to receive service, he then attempted to charge my visa for my reservation that I asked him to cancel because he was not allowing me to check in."
