"When my daughter was an infant, it was apparent she was developmentally delayed from day one. When she was about 6 months old or so, I saw her have what I believed to be a seizure. Her pediatrician referred her to this clinic. I cannot remember the docs name, it’s been a number of years. However, what he did when I told him I suspected seizures was to gaslight me and tell me “the likelihood of her having seizures is low, and the chances of catching them on an EEG are slim”. He refused to order an EEG. He sent us on our way. I wasn’t happy about that, so I requested a second opinion. Believe it or not, the second neurologist (in Greenville) also did the SAME thing. The THIRD one (in Columbia) ordered an in-office EEG before her first appointment. She had THREE seizures in 20 MINUTES, and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Many months went by where she went undiagnosed and untreated, and therefore suffered seizures everyday, and therefore, potentially suffered more brain damage than she already had. We have since learned that she has a rare genetic disorder called Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome. This was dx at age 7. BRS directly causes epilepsy (and autism). Some kind of doctor this guy was. Completely missed the diagnosis and told me I was wrong. Now that she is 11, this kind of stuff never happens, because I’ve learned to stand up to doctors who have a god complex. Take your child to Columbia. The one in Prisma Health."
