Sandbar Pizza Joint 114 Jungle Road, Edisto Island, SC 29438

"On this year's October vacation on Edisto, I ordered from the Sandbar Pizza Joint for the first time. I ordered a Greek pizza and a Greek salad. The salad was excellent, with plenty of fresh lettuce, actually ripe cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, and feta. The dressing was not house-made but fine. The pizza was topped with good ingredients (I might have liked a little more). Some reviewers have said their crust was under-cooked, but I found the thin crust very good, not crispy as some pizza chains bake it but fully baked and with a pleasant chewiness like thicker-crust. On the down side, Yelp and others still show Sandbar open on Mondays; delivery was not available when I called during operating hours; and the pizza was already cooling when I arrived during the time specified to pick it up. I get the impression the owners are working on improving the place but still have a little way to go. I will try them again."

"What has happened here? We used to love Sandbar pizza and wings… I’m not sure what is going on with the pizza or the oven. Last month the pizza crust was not completely cooked and this month the pizza is pretty done on one half on top and looks barely cooked on the other half on top?? The wings used to be huge, not any more. One order of wings were a decent size and the other order they were so small the bones were breaking off as we tried to eat them. Very very disappointing. I don’t think we will go back anymore."

"After a late day at the beach, my family and I stopped in at 7:55pm and the staff graciously took our order. The owner even came out to make sure we were taken care of. The pizza was superb! Great flavor - the sauce, crust and cheese were excellent! Probably one of the best margherita pizzas I have ever had!"

"The pizza was just alright. They asked for 35-45 minutes to prepare, and when we picked up at 45 minutes, the pizza had obviously been sitting for a while. I felt bad for the staff, as there was a gentleman in the restaurant whose order had gotten messed up, who was berating the front of house staff for the mistake. But they were obviously flustered and it meant that we had to stand and wait while she had a back and forth with that guest who kept interrupting her, so ultimately our pizza just got colder. Whoever cut the pizza must have been blind, because some pieces were about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long, and then on the other side, they were 6 inches wide and 8 inches long. The flavors on the pizza were fine. Nothing outstanding but not bad. Caesar salad was just a bowl of lettuce and some croutons, with packets of Caesar dressing like you would find on the salad bar in a grocery store. For the $, I felt like they could have put in a little more effort. Lastly, and this didn't affect us, but if I had been eating in the restaurant, I would have been disappointed, the soda machine was out of EVERYTHING (see photo). I actually took the picture because it made me laugh!!"

"The service was excellent and the food was delicious! I definitely enjoyed myself here today. After ordering our pizza, we walked on the beach while we waited. We returned to find a hot and fresh pizza straight from the oven. I work in the pizza industry and I can honestly say I really appreciate these guys. I even asked for an application to pick up a few days a week if they're willing. The shark hanging above the registers is really cool too!"
