"I love Vera. She has been life-changing for my family and myself. I lost my son he was 18 years old and I couldn't have made it without her."
"PARENTS BEWARE. I have to say that my experience with this office was stressful. I came in for my son who was having major behavioral issues at school. I was recommended her office and had high expectations only to be greeted with a person who did not understand the gravity of their position. She gave me a possible diagnoses to my 6 year old and then prescribed him an antipsychotic medicine after 2 visits where my son barely spoke. I refused to place my son on a antipsychotic because it was not a thorough evaluation and I felt that he would benefit from behavioral therapy before exploring medication. Vera let my sons school know on speaker (with me in the room) that I refused to fill the prescription and expressed how she disagreed with. After that appointment 2 days later I get a call from CPS stating that I was neglecting my child's mental health."
"You DON’T want to be a patient of this office…if you’re looking for a psych, maybe keep looking First, they’re disorganized. For two of my three appointments with her I waited over 40 minutes after my scheduled time to be seen. No notice, no apologies, no sense of urgency as she lingered in the lobby chit chatting while she was an hour behind schedule. My 4th (last) appointment with her was supposed to be a phone appointment, I waited around and she just never called. Her office never followed up either. She forgot to send a prior auth for a script she wanted me to try. I tried calling the office and left multiple messages to let her know, tried talking to the pharmacy and my insurance and i couldn’t get it filled without her doing her part. When I came back for my follow up to tell her I couldn’t get the script filled, she accused me of being non compliant and said she “needs to find something i’ll ACTUALLY take” She also won’t counsel you on different med options or what to expect on them. She keeps random pill samples in her desk drawer and whips them out like she’s just passing you a tissue or something. I had to use google alot to educate myself and be active in my treatment plan Shes super evangelical and kinda pushy about it.. she radiates big mormon energy for some reason. Like “pray away your problems” vibes which I could see being a really ineffective approach Lastly, when I came to her I didn’t even have a real diagnosis, and she really didn’t know me well having only talked to me for a half hour during our intake session. I asked her if maybe we could work towards doing an evaluation so we know what i’m being treated for, since vague symptoms can exist across different disorders but shouldn’t all be treated using the same class of meds…she scoffed at me and told me she doesn’t do that, she just writes the scripts (Can’t make this up) I kept myself composed and asked if she knew of somebody who did, she jotted down a place on a sticky note and walked out of the room. Yikes! (Maybe she could benefit from having her own psychiatrist?)"
"Treating mental health is extremely difficult. Vera is the best I have encountered. Always very caring and accommodating as far as I’m concerned. You do have to call, and leave a message, for someone to call you back. That takes time, sometimes. Kristen is great, really wants to see people succeed, and be happy in life."
"I’ve had two very negative experiences with this office. Back in 2015, I saw Vera for Anxiety and Depression. She, for whatever reason, prescribed me Risperadone. An anti-psychotic. Not only did this not help my feelings of anxiety or depression, it made me feel like I was going to collapse, like I was physically very weak, and to the point where I was scared to drive. I had to miss multiple days of work. When I shared this with her, she not only denied these being side effects (an quick Google search shows that these are side effects), when I told her I wasn’t going to continue taking them, she began to argue with me, saying to simply try taking them at night, something I had already done. She was also, incredibly inattentive, made it very clear she wasn’t listening, and wouldn’t even look at me when we met, just started at her computer. Not realizing I was being referred to the same office I had been to back in 2015, I arrived at her office today, and realized that it was her office, but that I would be seeing Kristin Marquis, PMHNP. Since I’d seen Vera walk in and out of Kristin’s office several times when she was seeing other patients, (leaving the door open while she was in there), I asked Kristin if Vera would be present when we met. When I began to explain why, Kristin interrupted me, and I asked her to please not do so. She began to interrupt me again, and I again asked her to please not interrupt me. Kristin then stated she was “uncomfortable” seeing me, stating that I was behaving “aggressively”, when I had been in her office no more than 15 seconds, and had simply tried to explain why I didn’t want to see Vera. Kristine then leaves the office to get Vera, and began to tell her why I didn’t want to see Vera. I explained to Vera what had occurred when I saw her in 2015, and how it had lead me to be very concerned about seeing certain types of mental health professionals like herself. Not even 10 minutes after, Vera called me, and stated that she’d gotten a call from my insurance and that I was welcome to come in. I had to remind her that I had just been in her office not even 10 minutes prior."
