"I would not recommend living here. Within the first 6 months that my son has been living at Monarch there has been several shooting have happened. One resulted in a death. People hang out in the hallways and will not let you pass without feeling intimidated. We were led to believe that everyone living in the apartments were students. I had to provide proof that my son was a student when filling out the application. That did not turn out to be true. There are many residents that are not students. I believe the apartments stopped screening applicants over the past couple of years and let anyone move in. I will say that the office staff has been nice when speaking with them but they are young adults put in the position to try and manage the apartments. We felt this place is so unsafe that I moved my son out for the spring semester while I continue to pay the rent for the next 6 months. Update 1/23/2024 - I just happened to read the response that a representative of management left 5 months ago to my review. I can tell from the tone of the response that it probably hasn't gotten much better. To address the comment about speaking to management, yes I personally did on multiple occasions and was offered no reasonable alternatives. The office staff were just as frustrated about everything that was going on at that time and lack of support. We were able to move my son and roommate (who also lived at Monarch and left because of the environment) into University Edge just across the baseball field. They have no issues and enjoy living there. I find it interesting that the University Edge apartments have never had issues such as I described in my original post and are less than a half mile away."
"If I could give 0 stars I would. I lived here for about 6 months. Initially when I moved in I was told how safe and secure these apartments are, which is the furthest thing from the truth! Half the time the doors to the apartments do not lock and close, the gates do not close ever nor do they have a system to even work, cars are broken in to in the parking lot weekly, there is always chaos in the parking lots between drugs, parties and fights between rowdy residents. The late fees are crazy high and expensive, it takes weeks go get anything fixed if it's broken, if you are 3 days late on rent, an eviction notice is posted. I having a medium dog who was never introduced to cats was put in a room with 2 roommates with cats who were not dog friendly. They split up utilities basically just randomly splitting the bill up not by your usage from your room, the elevators in all the PRtment buildings do not work 98% of the time. The office staff are rude, and normally just residents that need assistance with their rent. The mail system causes mail to be lost and stolen pretty often. The gym on site is dirty, smelly, dark and doesn't have full sets of any weights, which limits being able to work out. The pool in the summer is nice, if you don't mind inhaling Marijuana smoke while you're sitting in the chairs. It is close to everything and convenient to shopping and dining. Walk out your front door and you can literally buy anything you want! From drugs to food to fancy cocktails to designer purses! There is a resident there for everything! The apartments ars right by train tracks as well as the college sports fields, so sleeping at night becomes difficult with the load train horn, as well as when sports events are going it's loud and getting in the apartment complex and out is nearly impossible because of traffic. Voted in the top 5 most dangerous places to live in Johnson City! I guess it's one of those situations you get what you paid for. Rent is cheap. But it's poorly run. Office ladies will text you at all hours of the night as well. Would not recommend this place at all. January 2023 there was a shooting and multiple deaths, residents were not made aware. They cleaned the blood up and had another resident in the room 4 days later"
"Monarch is the worst place you could live. if you need something quick & cheap go to monarch but don’t stay for long or you’ll be growing health problems & having a horrible place to live. They have MOLD laminated onto the floors, water leakage in the roofs that are destroying the ceilings, dog DIARRHEA LEFT FOR DAYS in the hallways and stairwells, and an Elevator which hardly works (been out for months now) that they refuse to fix. Love the maintenance as everyone else does, that’s not their fault that the apartment manager can’t get her life together. (which she comes here to be a keyboard warrior and lies about other people’s reviews lol). Your apartment will come with a roach infestation, no cleaning, and it’ll be hot and stuffy if you move in before college semesters start. they don’t take care of the roaches so you’ll be paying $300 to try and get rid of them unless you want to live with them EVERYWHERE, because they’re EVERYWHERE, even in your closest too. they charge you hidden fees, and will lose your information if you have a pet so they try and get you to pay more! they even installed cameras outside to watch for people who don’t pick up their dogs feces, but they’ll contact you to tell you to pick your dogs stuff up even if you DID do it. they just want to give you a fee of $150 even though they’re wrong and have proof on camera of you cleaning your mess! Usually the office people are lovely but most of the time they sound dead. Claudia is not a good apartment tenant so if you’re looking to stay here long term to save money. don’t. there’s a nicer apartment just beside Monarch that has a walking track connected around it that you can walk to from Monarch. You also DONT have to be a student to live here so if any adults think that’s the case, you’ve been ill informed! Parking is mostly taken from non-residents as well outside of the visitors area. it’s not fun parking a mile away from the complex when half the people parked in front of your building don’t even live there. It’s not only the people here who live unclean (as we’ve seen), but the complex itself is just ruined and dirty and looks as if it hasn’t see cleaning in YEARS. love to all the maintenance but the rest, not at all. They have citations now from the Health Department that they’re willfully ignoring as well. They’re also known to delete maintenance requests because they know it’s out of their league to even fix it. if you like to live in a cardboard box while in college, this is the place for you!! Edit: I can’t even add the pictures to my review anymore or else y’all would actually see how disgusting it is to live here. I’ve lived in well over many apartments growing up and have never stepped foot into one as bad as this."
"When I first arrived at Monarch the staff treated me like they had known me for years and made me feel right at home. My apartment was very clean and smelled fresh. Trash is picked up at my front door, halls are cleaned regularly, and all my needs are addressed in a timely fashion. I have now lived there for 6 months and I will be renewing my lease. Great place to live and lots of activities to do. I highly recommend Monarch Apartments."
"I would like encourage anyone looking for a place to live for the next semester to apply to Monarch Apartments. The staff are incredible. The rooms are amazing. The living environment is clean, thanks to the recently added cleaning company "A&V Services". I have genuinely enjoyed my time at Monarch."
