"Came here for the 2nd time. (Last time I visited was pre-pandemic so it's been a while.) I arrived on time for my appointment and has my hair washed right away as did my daughter. We both got our hair cut by Michael. He did a fantastic job and cut my hair how I had imagined. It definitely helps to have a photo/image handy to show your stylist. I highly recommend making an appointment beforehand as they were VERY busy. It's good to see local business booming! I'd happily be a returning customer."

"As soon as I walked in here, I immediately was greeted by strong chemical fumes. Blow dryers running. Ladies getting their hair colored. I wish I did a little bit more research before coming here. I wish I had left. There is absolutely zero ventilation, so it’s extremely stuffy inside. I genuinely am concerned for the staff working (and their patrons) here all day, they’re breathing the fumes in for an extended period of time on a daily basis. The front desk staff is rude and has no concept of client complaint management. I brought up the concern of the lack of ventilation and she asked me what I want her to do about it as they’ve been busy all morning. The business being busy has nothing to do with the lack of ventilation. I definitely will not be coming back."

"My daughters wanted to experiment with some coloring. They did baby pink peekaboo highlights. The style was done beautifully. The entire vibe of the salon were very welcoming. I also occasionally come for wash and styles. I always look for Joey to wash because she gives the best head massages! Also, thank you to the front desk Emily, she is very sweet and gave my girls an after care maintenance sheet and gave them the whole run down on how to keep their color vibrant and healthy after the big job done today!"

While I accepted their recommendation of a keratin treatment due to the damage, my primary request was for a baby pink tone with a very subtle shadow root. Despite having level 11 white hair with just half a centimeter of orange roots, I was shocked when I got home to find half of my hair turned dark brown instead of the desired baby pink. The toner application was hastily done in just two minutes, without the careful attention that my hair clearly needed. Feeling utterly devastated, I took the initiative to drive two hours from Long Island to consult the owner, seeking a solution. I had even coordinated the timing to ensure she would be available. However, the reception I received was appalling. I was mocked, laughed at, and told outright that my hair was too damaged to work on. I tried communicating my stress and seeking a resolution, but the owner chose to dismiss me mid-sentence, turning away to attend to another client. It's disheartening to realize that after five years of patronage, the salon couldn't offer me even two minutes of understanding or an apology. To be ridiculed and made to feel insignificant is not the standard one should expect from any establishment, let alone one in the service industry. While money can be earned back, the emotional toll of such experiences can't be easily undone. No one should condone or support businesses that allow bullying. I also urge potential patrons to familiarize themselves with their rights; establishments are legally bound to certain standards, which you can verify through the 311 portal. I have been a loyal customer of Xcellent beauty salon for nearly seven years. And while loyalty should be rewarded with consistency and respect, my experiences have only degraded over time. My prior visits included: 1. A blow-dry session where my beautiful platinum-white hair turned an unintended shade of purple. 2. An instance where I requested a mere inch off my hair, but they took off a significant chunk, leaving me in tears on my birthday.
