"A pretty mediocre omakase experience. We got the $150/pp "premium" 17 piece set and it felt much more like a sub $100 experience as far as novelty and quality of ingredients. The food was definitely decent quality and tasty, but pretty conventional flavor-wise. The setting is really weird. I'd seen on Instagram that apparently there's an interactive media experience that comes with the omakase but this wasn't offered to us. It was just in a strange, too-empty space with lofted ceilings and an inappropriately lounge-y vibe. The counter sushi chef also didn't really care about banter / customer service which is half the reason I'd want to sit at a counter in the first place. At least tell me a little about the food!! Definitely doesn't hold a candle to a place like Domakse which has both innovation and passion."
"The sea urchin was incredibly fresh and sweet, a rare find in New York with no fishy taste and a perfectly moderate, delightful sweetness. It was my first time trying king salmon, which had a very firm texture. The taste of mackerel, bamboo-clad fish, sweet shrimp, and Hokkaido scallops was excellent, featuring a unique bouncy texture and a memorable gelatinous feel. The chef's seasoning was exceptional, with one fish dish having a savory saltiness and a mix of sweet and sour from the condiments, creating a richly layered flavor. The matcha mille-feuille was refreshingly light!"
"Every dish at this restaurant is a testament to their commitment to freshness. The ingredients are not just fresh; they are the epitome of what you’d expect in top-tier dining. Each bite offers a burst of natural flavors, sweet and savory, without any hint of fishiness or greasiness often found elsewhere."
"Junsui located right by Dumbo is hidden within a digital museum. Located within a digital museum called The Mode. John, the owner and sauce developer, welcomed us in and seated us immediately. He has a mocktail secret recipe made with red shiso leaf sourced from local farm. Mocktail for now and BYOB until their liquor license is available. Can’t wait for their liquor license and put some tequila in there. Unfortunately, there is no tap water available but complimentary sparking or stilled Saratoga is provided. Both soy sauce and vinegar is made in-house with every fish from Japan except for salmon from New Zealand. After enjoying the appetizers, we were pampered with their fish broth made from scratch to prepare our taste buds for nigiri. Everything is so fresh so good so tasty so umami. The blue fin tuna from Japan is definitely an artwork of its own. Everything from Akami to Ohtoro just melts in your mouth. Big difference from Spain. Come get a taste of legit Omakase and walk out totally satisfied with 18 delicious courses."
"Had a great time at Junsui! We had the 18 course option and it was worth it! Every bite was delicious - the fish was fresh and the selections were on point. The uni, scallops and fatty tuna were some of my favorites. The chef was super nice and answered our questions regarding each course. I will be back."
