Palmer Chapel Methodist Church

"Took a random drive to Cataloochee and found this beautiful chapel along the drive. Beautiful area and quite picturesque with the chapel positioned beside the creek. We visited in February so it is quite gray and bleak this time of year, but still lovely. It would be phenomenal to visit in spring, summer and fall!"

"Simply Serene - A place to step back in time a century or so ago. A place to bow your head to pray. It is a chapel complete with a Bible and a hymnal on the podium. Sing a verse of Amazing Grace or find a favorite verse to speak aloud. Sit awhile in the old pews and meditate. The front doors open to the mountain creek because that’s closer to the horse trail. I suppose that was the route to the church back then. Don’t forget to look all around the grounds and fields nearby - you may catch sight of an elk or two!!!"

"Peaceful, quiet. Stream running and an elk walked up behind us. Tell the wildlife they are to maintain a safe distance. One can almost hear the hymn singing here."

"Awesome random excursion we took. Was so surprised to even find the doors unlocked so we were allowed to go into this church. Elk were just on the other side of the tree line heading our way too. Perfect timing."
