"Do NOT trust this doctor with your care. I've been coming to AAIR Charlotte for over 3 years for allergy shots... where do I even begin? The clinic staff are so kind but I've never seen an employee last more than a year, the doctor openly berates her staff in front of patients and constantly throws them under the bus for her own missteps. The hours are completely inconsistent- the clinic will close for a week or more at a time with very little notice (maybe an email a few days ahead) or worse you will show up to locked doors with a closed sign. This makes it impossible for anyone to stay on track with their 2x week allergy shots, and the insurance charges you per dose- so if you are behind on shots due to the office being closed you are paying more and are set back. I'm seeing a new immunologist and they were legitimately shocked when I told them the situation at AAIR Charlotte. The last time I was skin tested at AAIR Dr. O'Connor was out of town, so they had the nurse do the skin prick and sent the doctor photos of my back. It took at least 2 months to get these results back and what's worse is the doctor never followed up with me about my MANY allergies. I literally had to run her down to get her to explain the test results to me, after I finally had the staff print them off and after several attempts to contact Dr. O'Connor. My current doctor said that to try and read the test by photo is near impossible and that I shouldn't have even been billed for a visit in which the doctor wasn't even present. I have sensitive skin and so many of the things I thought I was allergic to was just a reaction to the prick- a distinction that could only be determined in person. I legitimately did not know that allergy shots do not treat food allergies... the lack of communication is appalling. The phone line was recently down for 2 weeks, emails go unanswered, and the patient portal hasn't worked for 2 years. Save your money, time, and sanity and please do not go to Dr. O'Connor at AAIR Charlotte."
"We have been with AAIR for over 3 years now. We've always made the 2+ hour drive from South Carolina because it was the only place close enough that offered oral immunotherapy for peanuts. My daughter successfully completed OIT in 2020. We missed her yearly labs because no one ever called and said we needed to do those. Her nurse practitioner who handled her OIT left the practice and we were never notified. So finally when I call to see if we needed to schedule labs, they inform me she's gone, it explains why nobody called I guess. I thought patients were supposed to be informed when a provider leaves? So we did the labs and I was supposed to go over it on a televist with Dr. O'connor. Well the day before they call and ask if I could see another doctor because Dr. O'Connor was going out of town. I didn't like that but I really wanted to go over the labs. I wait 45 minutes and the doc never shows up to the televisit. I call the office and they then tell me he can't go over labs with me because I'm in SC and he can only practice in NC. I really didn't see the difference because my daughter is still a SC resident and they treat her, why does it matter what location I'm calling from? Finally a month later I talk to Dr. O'Connor. She said that my daughter needed to start allergy shots as well and that someone would be in touch. Months went by and I called. No response. I've wanted to try and find somewhere local to me but unfortunately OIT still isn't widely offered and we still need yearly checkups for it. It's a shame because I don't mind the drive if I can get the proper care my daughter needs. It's very frustrating."
"Dr. O'Connor is an amazing, skilled, experienced practitioner and helped to resolve many of my son's ailments by getting to the root of the problem with appropriate tests to diagnose and followed with the correct combination of components needed to help heal his immune system via allergy shots. I cannot thank her enough for allowing him to have a more "normal" life without constant irritation and inflammation throughout his body. The office is quite the contrary. The staff are friendly and professional, however it seems that billing is very much inaccurate on a regular basis. I have been charged multiple times for the same procedures/therapies. When I try to contact office personnel, I can never get through to anyone who can help or give answers. After a few years dealing with this frustration, I have regrettably had to choose another practitioner."
"I would not recommend this practice to anyone. My very first appointment I was waiting for over 3 hours (after driving several just to get there) and I got up to leave because it was clear nobody would be coming in soon. They saw me leaving and begged me to stay claiming it would be worth it to see Dr. O'Connor. When I finally saw her, she acted like would help and I was feeling optimistic since I had been neglected by so many others due to the nature of my various serious illnesses stemming from mold toxicity, even though the staff working couldn't pronounce the names of even very common medications (it was clear there was no medical background). Time goes by and communication with the office was next to impossible, and message were seldom responded to. In the Spring, I had a televisit with Dr. O'Connor, who the office knew was the only doctor I should be seeing. They put me with a different doctor who knew nothing of my case that I literally was having to teach medical terms and facts to. I immediately alerted the staff of this, and Dr. O'Connor asked me to schedule an appointment with her. I tried and she didn't respond. After contacting multiple times, I finally got that appointment, in which the entire purpose was to discuss a letter she was to write for me, as she had already promised multiple times. I then received a phone call after sending over the materials we discussed from the same previous doctor who knew nothing of my case/basic medical information that they needed to discuss with me. I called back multiple times, as well as sent emails and portal messages. No response. Then I get a bill in the mail for both appointments -- the one with the doctor who had no understanding of toxicity at all, and the appointment with Dr. O' Connor in which we discussed the letter I still have yet to receive (and no longer want after this terrible treatment). I left literally dozens of voicemails, emails, portal messages and still these absurd charges have not been removed. Dr. O'Connor herself has ignored every message (through portal or email) I have sent. It is November, and these appointments were in March/April, and I still get constant bills in the mail. This practice has absolutely no concern over patient care, and will bill you for inappropriate appointments and then completely ignore you and your care after. Find literally anywhere else to go, as anyone will treat you better than AAIR Charlotte."
"I'm a patient of 6 years. Dr. Oconner, only doctor I found in Charlotte that can help treat my Mast Cell Activation Disorder. Very well respected by all my medical teams which has made my hospital stays less complicated. Dr. Oconner makes herself available to my hospital team and myself for phone consultant after hours. Leandra, NP assist and steps in when needed. This has saved my life many times. Thank y'all so much! The office seems to be going through new procedures and hiring new staff I saw last time I went 2 weeks ago. Seems to flow better. Its easier and faster visit when I take a list of not more than 2 resons to discuss. Plan to be at your visit average 2 hours. I'm longer because my list is longer. I'm also complicated and I need Dr. Oconner's time more than insurance pays for."
